This is for my Damita Jo junkies...

ALL TRUE JANET FANS, GREETINGS:

HERE'S SOME VELVET NEWS YOU CAN USE...

Janet's Struggling Album Poised for Re-Release
Source: http://us.imdb.com/news/wenn/#celeb4

Janet Jackson is hoping for a second shot at success with her latest album Damita Jo - bosses are reportedly planning to release a revamped version of the project. The album was expected to shift hordes of units when it was released in March, following the endless media attention Jackson received when her breast was exposed at February's Super Bowl during a duet with Justin Timberlake. But since its release, a disappointing 863,662 copies of the album have sold - a poor comparison to her previous projects. And now news website Eurweb reports that Virgin Records plans to re-release Damita Jo in a package which will include six new tracks -and hopefully reignite interest in the struggling CD.

In other news, "All Nite (Don't Stop)" hit #1 on Billboard's Dance charts making it her 17th #1 dance single. "Just A Little While" also hit #1 back in May on the dance charts. The project is doing well dance-wise.

Janet's tour will start after the presidential elections. It has not been cancelled.

Also...

Christina Aguilera talks about Damita Jo...
In an interview with People Magazine,Christina Aguilera chatted about her upcoming album, which she is currently working on, calling it "a blast from the past with a modern feel". She spoke about Janet Jackson. She says,Damita Jo is a good album. I love that album. Janet never stops giving you what you want. She's an artist that will always be regarded as one of the best. Like Madonna, she's reinvented herself a lot and kept a connection with her audience. The whole Superbowl thing ruined her reputation with the media and pretentious prudes , but who cares about them? She's still doing her thing."

The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.

Actually, they plan to re-release the album with BRAND NEW artwork for the cover. I'm glad because it gives the record some new energy. That cover has a lot of old energy that I don't agree with. Looking forward to the re-release!

SIX NEW TRACKS?

I never copped the Japanese edition so hopefully that includes those other 2(?) songs.

It's a good album and "All Nite" is popular in my area.

well, a couple times anyway. it's been pretty much the same for 11 years now. but, hey, the pop stars with the same tired old ho routine have to stick together, i guess.

How about including a DVD with the rerelease? Maybe it could have the uncensored video for All-Nite. I'd definitely buy it then. Although I think including an R rated video on one of her albums might just make things worse for her.

they don't even need to put on 6 new tracks. just put on the 3 extras that are already out there, plus the Just A Little While remix, remove the insipid interludes, and it's actually a DECENT album. that's what i did. it extended its play-life by about a week for me that way. it still holds the record for keeping my attention on Janet for the shortest amount of time, but it's nearly unlistenable as released.

which is really sad. i don't hate janet. i love her. i am/was a huge fan of her. i'm just extremely disappointed with her laziness and lack of originality the last 5 years or so neutral

Brand new art work and everything rolleyes The ounce of interest I still had for Janet is now gone! This is what I call desperation. She should be downright embarrassed. I hope she eventually gets the message that not many people care about her music anymore and maybe she will make better, more sophisticated music the next time around.

She would be better off just putting Damita Jo behind her and releasing the 6 new songs as an EP. Revamping Damita Jo is just throwing good money after bad.

I hope she doesn't think that. TVR is regarded as her most personal and expressive work. That's the only Janet album I bought 6 times (and gave out as gifts to friends -- who still play the album to this day and thank me for getting it for them). I love that record. Rhythm Nation 1814 will always be my all-time favorite though.

I see it this way...
RN1814 sparked my love.
TVR made me a fan
The AFY tour made me a fan FOR LIFE.

I think Damita Jo would be a tigher and more cohesive album if the interludes were purged. Loved 'em back in the day, but now they're just skipworthy. The order of the songs should be changed and more dance tracks. No more formulas -- no rain effects, no talking at the ends of tracks, no interludes. Less talk about carnal desire. I wouldn't mind if she got rid of "Warmth," "Sexhibition," "Truly," "Thinkin' 'Bout My Ex" from the re-release since now when I listen to them they don't spark anything. Keep everything else and it would totally work.

The DVD idea sounds cool, too. Definitely include the JALW, IWY and AN(DS) videos as well as the Jay Leno performances and some SNL stuff. That would be cool.

Dream tracklisting of re-release:

All Nite (Don't Stop)
Damita Jo
Just A Little While (this song holds up so well... I've been listening to it more and more lately)
SloLove (dear GOD I love this song!)
Like You Don't Love Me
Strawberry Bounce
My Baby
Island Life
R&B Junkie
I Want You
Spending Time With You
Put Your Hands On
Moist

With two bonus tracks, the Japanese album was already filled to the brim. If they purged the interludes, they'd have room for perhaps 1 (2 MAX) more songs. I assume they'll keep the Japanese bonus tracks. Replace JALW with the UK Radio Edit. But there is NO WAY they'll have room for 3 videos - those are like 60-70 megs each minimum. You're right in that they'd have to go on a separate disc. But I'd rather they do something like the AFY DVD edition, because seriously, who the hell wants a DVD with only 3 videos on it? That's why DVD singles never took off.

Hmmm.

An even better idea would be to add "Love Me (Just Blaze Remix)" and "Put Your Hands On" to the domestic version of Damita Jo. I want some all-new material as well. More dance stuff. Call up Anders Bagge or somebody!

Hey, see if your area has the AN(DS) maxisingle. "Put Your Hands On" is on it.

AN(DS) is really doing well on LA radio and clubs and in the NY dance club scene. I'll never forget back in May when I went to a club out in Hollywood and the song came on hundreds of people screamed. It felt so good! LOL

nod

I've always doubted that that was a remix of Just A Little While. It sounds like a rough cut of the much-rumoured first single "Have Your Way With Me".

PYHO would be a good choice. It's already been released as a B-side on several international All Nite singles.

Maybe we'll finally get some of those unreleased Come On Get Up mixes at CD reference quality? Here's hoping.

P.S. In Japan they're releasing a DVD in September called "From janet. to Damita Jo". It may be a Japan-only release (I'm not sure), but both hmv.co.jp and cdjapan.co.jp are listing it.

Yeah I heard about that Japanese compilation as well. Sounds cool, but I want something more comprehensive. I want a career spanning DVD. Like a box set or something. I'm a completist when it comes to her vids, I was sad when the SOAG video and Whoops Now weren't included on the AFY (DVD Edition) -- but cool points for the TA (Deeper Mix) video. We need Twentry Foreplay on DVD along with Runaway (Hell, throw "Scream" in there, too... even though it was Michael's moment). We better not get shortchanged!

You would have to ask A&M records to loan Virgin the rights to the Runaway and Twenty Foreplay vids. The two different labels will also keep a career spanning retrospective from happening any time soon. When it does happen, I would like to see pre-Control material on it, like the video for Dream Street.

Has Janet ever performed any songs from her first two albums in concert?

To my knowledge, no. That would be hype if she busted out with "Young Love" or "Say You Do." I don't think she would do "Making Love In The Rain" or "Diamonds" because those were kind of obscure and were Herb Alpert's moments. I think the casual fans or younger fans (even though I'm young myself) wouldn't completely appreciate these songs if she did them live because they're so used to her MTV videos. If she busted out "Dream Street," "Don't Stand Another Chance" or "French Blue" on tour I would freak! A Janet fan can dream!

Aw, "Diamonds" and "MLITR" are great jams. I certainly want to hear 'em. Funny, I never really thought of them as Herb Alpert songs. The production stamp of Jam & Lewis is all over them, and they have Janet/Lisa Keith's ice cream vocals. It's as if Herb Alpert was relegated to session musician on that record (Keep Your Eye On Me) lol .
