Nashville still rules: toby exceeds sales of 20 million! sorry for all the people who dislike him but toby keith's catalogue has exceeded sales over 20 million copies. I for one couldn't be more happier. Country's still alive and well. And even though i don't always agree with toby's political views (never to be honest) his music rocks! turn up the volume to the max everytime 'whiskey girl' comes on the radio. It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

Yeah, country's alive, but well? It's gotten so far from it's country roots, that it's pretty much pop by now. There are, of course, great exceptions to this (Allison Krauss, Nickel Creek to an extent, and recent Dixie Chicks), but by and large I don't like the country scene now. Altman's movie Nashville has never felt more right on about the country scene than it does now.

And the texas country scene seems to be bringing on some new talent: josh turner, joe nichols...further: Dierkx Bentley, Jimmy wayne. and the old values: vince gill, patty loveless, willie (!), george stratit, hank williams jr,...fun times to be a country fan. Even though country is heading fast forward on the commercial route there's a movement in the other direction as well since most fans want the music to stay connected with its roots. The succes of long black train, one of the greatest albums in years, proves that. So it's defenitly worth it to keep an eye on the country scene i think. It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!
