"Mothership Connection (Star Child)"...the song!

dancing jig Probably my favorite song by Parliament, and I'm listening to it now. The bass, the horn arrangement, the party chatter...then comes this haunting breakdown with the "Swing down..." chant! eek Didn't George say he was trippin' on acid the night he and Bootsie saw "the mothership", or was it cocaine? confuse Oh, well, back to my one-man party. dancing jig

When they go in2 the 'swing down sweet chariot, stop and let me ride' it's very intoxicating. I love Parliamet Funkadelic...the greatest band ever!

The studio version doesn't hold a candle to any live rendition of this song. But 'tis the jam. Literally, one of those jams that could go on for an hour and I wouldn't care.

Except for the "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot" part that became the b-side to "Flashlight", I don't have any live versions. sad Where can I get one?

I agree. I think it's their most consistent album.

Naw, "Mothership Connection" is their masterpiece, to me. But hell yeah, the song is the shit. Bootsy's bassline is throbbing.

It's hard to say what the best Parliajoint is for me, I would say the above album but they came right back the next year with Motor Booty Affair which was meant to be a live/animated film, just think how cool that would have been, it would have been right up there with The Wiz, maybe even better.
