Does anyone remember the old funk group Ebonee Webb?

Does anyone remember the old funk group, Ebonee Webb? This group put out a jam in 1981 called "Something About You". That was the JAM!!!!

The first time I heard it, I swore it was Prince. When The Time's first album was released the same year and I found out it was a Prince project, I wondered if Ebonee Webb was also. I bought Ebonee Webb's album and found out that the group was produced by the Barkays producer, Allen Jones.

The group's follow up album was "Too Hot To Be Cool". This also was a jam.

If you like old school Prince, you will absolutely love Ebonee Webb. "Something About You" sounds a lot like Prince's "Head". I have never seen a group that sounds so much like Prince without it being a Prince project. The synths and the falsetto is a dead ringer.

Anyway, I was just wondering if I am the only one out there that remembers them.

biggrin Yeah, I remember them! I always thought they looked a lot like the Time--sounded like a Jamie Starr production too, and the fact that they were out during the same period...I always liked their jams...

Ebonee Webb

1981 – Anybody Wanna Dance
1981 – Do Me Right (Everybody Needs A Little Love)
1981 – Something About You
1981 – Woman
1983 – Too Hot To Be Cool

eek I loved "something about you". I thought it was prince, too. I never knew they released an album! I wonder if its still in print.
Looking back, a lot of funk from that era (81-83)sounds like P.(or vice versa) I was listeneng to Michael Henderson "wide receiver" and tripping on how much it reminded me of a prince jam.( was mike tryin' to tell us something?)

Oh yeah, it's DEFINATELY out of print. I don't think it's ever been released on a compilation album either. I have the first album on vinyl from back in the day. I downloaded "Too Hot To Be Cool" and I am still looking around the used record stores for that second album.
