Nina Sky Ok, what's the deal with this duo? I'm hearing mixed views about them. I'm feeling their first single "Move Ya Body" (you can't go to a party in New York without hearing it at least once in a DJ set), but are they for real? Is their album any good? I heard they gave a wack "live" performance on Soul Train, so I take it a live gig with the girls isn't the most gratifying thing in the world. Hey, maybe I'm being hard on the two. What are your thoughts? The "Can ya feel the beat," edit. [This message was edited Mon Jul 12 15:06:48 2004 by JANFAN4L]

Is "Move ya Body" the same beat as that Elephant man song? Four strings across the bridge. Ready to carry me over,Over the quavers, drunk in the bars,Out of the realm of the orchestra

Yup. As a mtter of a fact MTV news just did a segment about 4 songs having the same beat. One song I cam recall the uses that beat is called "Culo". The riddim used is called the "Coolie Skank." Hummm, sort of like how everybody was using the "diwali" riddim last year (sean paul, lumidee, wayne wonder). Thank You San Alejo for getting rid of my enemies. :-0
Thank You SO much Saint Expedite for your help Thank You Virgin de Guadalupe for helping my friend Thank You Saint Anthony for returning my wallet to me untouched

Thanks for mentioning this. I'm feeling both songs (I love the beat!) but, I'm giving the edge to "Jook Gal." I've heard one or two other songs that use this beat, maybe they're remixes of the Elephant Man's joint. Anyway, don't know much about Nina Sky. Heard them on Hot 97 weeks ago. I think the name is a contraction of Nicole and Nancy, I think. And the "sky" thing refers to the sky's the limit. I also heard they are twins. (???)

Hummm, sort of like how everybody was using the "diwali" riddim last year (sean paul, lumidee, wayne wonder). I hope they don't suffer the same fate as Lumidee. Seems like artists who use another hit's beat seem to fizzle away (Wayne Wonder, Lumidee, and that diwali riddim craze last year was a prime example). Something tells me that Nina Sky has O.H.W. written all over their career. You never know though. . [This message was edited Mon Jul 12 16:13:27 2004 by JANFAN4L]

[This message was edited Mon Jul 12 15:27:18 2004 by BeautifulOneJem] Of course, I know it's lip synched. I was refering to their actual performance on Soul Train. I heard they walked backwards and fowards in a circle during the entire song.

It's a really fun song and the twins are cute. Their harmonies seem reminiscent of Zhane.

I heard they walked backwards and fowards in a circle during the entire song. You are exactly right...I saw their performance and all they did was walked back and forth with one arm in the air! It reminds me of a high school talent show. They just need a good choreographer...then they would be hot!!

I actually heard them do an answer record to that Mario Winans song "I don't wanna know" they had Angie Martinez rapping on it...that was before they're current single....yeah they're a guilty pleasure of mine. I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

VH1 Interview
Nina Sky: Talking With The Twins http://www.vh1.com/artist..._sky.jhtml Cell phones, sex talk, and fortune tellers - the sisters move their bodies lots of different ways Two 19-year-old identical twins from Astoria, Queens have one of the hottest (and naughtiest) tunes in the country. With a little help from Jamaica's coolie dance riddim, Nina Sky's "Move Ya Body" cries out for someone to turn up the boom box and open up a fire hydrant so city listeners can get some relief from the summer heat. "We grew up in a culturally diverse neighborhood," says Nicole, the twin with a stud in her lower lip. "We always heard different types of music playing. One day someone would blast rap out their window. The next day it would be Spanish or Greek music. We were really influenced by that." Their self-titled debut is basically a block party on CD. While drum machines thud and synths tweak, Nicole and her sister Natalie ogle boys from afar, set traps to ensnare them, learn what dogs they are, and kick them to the curb. There are steamy ballads like "Temperature's Rising," and plenty more probable club smashes like "Turnin' Me On" and "Holla Back." Deep it is not, but Nicole and Natalie Albino are still only in their teens. And they did have a hand in co-writing every track. "We wrote our first song together when we were seven," says Nicole. "It was called 'Sisters.' It was always a shared vision." The ladies like to laugh; the sisters are always quick cut each other up. They also like to shop - Nicole shares their friend Fat Joe's passion for sneakers and wants to get a pair of Bathing Apes, Pharrell's favorite footwear. The Albinos definitely have their girly side. Even though they're identical twins, there's little chance of confusing the two. As well as sporting the lip stud, Nicole is taller and has dark hair. Natalie is the shorter redhead. "Nicole is laidback," she says. "She's always on her cell or on her two-way, so her phone bill is crazy." Nicole bawls in protest. "But Nicole's cell phone is Nicole's cell phone!" she roars. "That's none of your business, Natalie!" Getting a chance to describe her sister, Nicole says, "She's outspoken. She can be loud sometimes. If she feels very strongly about something she will speak her mind. She's into lip gloss and likes to eat a lot. She eats like she weighs 400 pounds." "Hey, I don't show it though!" counters Natalie. "Deep down inside I'm a 400 pound woman. McDonald's is my favorite food. I eat it everyday." Everyday? Maybe they haven't had a chance to check out Super Size Me, where the Golden Arches are indicted for making food that's turning American citizens into overstuffed beanbags on legs. Director and star Morgan Spurlock tests the nutritional value of the restaurant's fare by eating nothing but their burgers, McNuggets, fries and shakes for a month. The results are not pretty. "Nicole's seen it," says Natalie. "She fell asleep!" "I fell asleep towards the end," concedes Nicole, "but it completely changed the way that I eat McDonald's. I really didn't eat there that much before, but I really don't eat it much now." Considering how close the sisters are, and how quick they are to laugh at each other, it seems fair to ask how they felt when recording "Temperature's Rising." The slow jam is an unabashed tribute to making sweet love to their men, but once you've met Nina Sky, you can easily imagine them cracking up when Natalie - or is it Nicole? - cries "I want to feel you inside me." "We don't really think about it when we're singing it," Nicole continues. "We're just chilling to the music and singing. When she was singing that, it's not like I was thinking about 'Wow, Natalie is singing about...'" Natalie interrupts, "That was you singing it!" "Or when Natalie is singing her part," continues Nicole, "It's not like, 'Wow, Natalie is singing about having a sexual experience with someone!' It was like, 'Wow, Natalie sounds really nice.'" When it comes to men, the Albinos are united in their tastes, ticking off the pros and cons of what makes a man attractive. They both demand a good sense of humor, followed by plenty of smiling and ambition. Then Nicole adds, "Bad breath is a turn-off. If a guy throws a fart in front of you, that's a turn-off." Natalie continues the list, "I hate someone conceited that talks about themselves a lot. There's a difference between being confident and being conceited." Finally we come to the matter of their name. If they're Nicole and Natalie, who's Nina? They chose the name Nina by using the first two letters of their own names. Then they added the sky because Natalie was always likening their personalities to the sun and the moon. But don't get them started on astrology. "I'm not really into astrology," says Nicole. "Natalie went to a fortune teller, and the lady was like, 'Oh, you're gonna be successful in the arts.' Then my friend went and she basically told her the same thing, but kind of re-worded it. So I felt like they tell everyone the same thing ..." "... and based on their reactions they turn it around," continues Natalie. "It was fun though. It was more like entertainment, we didn't take it serious. Nicole didn't do it. When we went to get our fortunes told, she told the lady to shove her crystal ball up her butt 'cause she wasn't that good. No, I'm only joking!"

OH MY GOD...
Observation/Realization: I was watching Nina Sky's Move Ya Body video for the umpteenth time and I just noticed something. The club they used for the video shoot is the Avalon in New York. I go to that club all the time!!!! I was like, "man, that club sure does look familiar." It's so weird. They play that song all the time at the Avalon and I never knew that Nina Sky filmed the video there. It's wild.
