Kevin Eubanks, before he became Laughing Boy has anybody ever checked out Kevin Eubanks, back in the years before he became a Tonight Show sidekick? He was known as one hellafied guitar player on the jazz/fusion circuit--he put out a string of impressive albums, especially Kevin Eubanks,Guitarist, Opening Night, Sundance,Shadow Prophets, Face to Face and Spirit Talk(all probably out of print now)...
--he's equally adept on acoustic as well as solid and hollow bodied electric guitar--and plays lightning fast runs without a pick , something Wes Montgomery was famous for... ...it's a shame, though, because since becoming Jay Leno's laughing partner,(Branford Marsalis picked him as his replacement) he hasn't done much recording (although I'm sure he's getting paid much more for laughing at Jay's "jokes" than he ever did recording for GRP)...I just think it's a pity that he's now known for that, rather than his tremendous gifts... This girl has "Spirit Talk" which she played me. It was really good. He can play. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Eubanks also was prominently featured on Branford Marsalis' album credited to pseudonym Buckshot Lefonque, and he does a good job. For the record:
Kevin Eubanks has released alot recently. about 5 discs... AND the reason why he held out for sometime was because the industry was messing with him like all artists in this business. I don't think you can say Kevin has changed. Have you ever been to his website? Check this out... You write somethin and ask something.... He writes back THAT week...with a answer. and alot of what Kevin says isnt conservative. its intelligent and funny. And it never ceases to amaze me how many replies this guy responds to. I guess what im saying to you is, Eubanks made a wise choice. He doesnt need the money to be binded in a record contract. Check out his mail order discs... http://www.kevineubanks.com Notice...how theres variety in the projects if you look at Kevins days on "GRP" He had to act like a sex symbol and be the smooth jazz sound. Everybody pays dues. | |
