I remember them!

I loved that song they made called "Ya Cold Wanna Be With Me"...

I WANT A GIRL THAT'LL TURN ME ON
WHEN I SAY GO, I WANNA HEAR HER SAY GONE
WHEN I SAY LEAVE I WANNA HEAR HER SAY LEFT
AND IF I SAY, 'WAS IT GOOD?' SHE BETTER SAY DEF!

but then there was this line in there that I've always remembered and found extremely self-hating and evocative of the color-conflicts that go on within the black American community

I want a girl with action, 'control' like Janet Jackson
I hate the dark, I'm on the light so I can see reaction

I THINK THE QUOTE WAS,"I HATE DARK, CLICK ON THE LIGHTS SO I CAN
C THE ACTION". IT WAS NOT MEANT 2 DEGRADE OR DISRESPECT DARK SKINNED WOMEN.

OH, OK. Thanks for clearing that up for me. For all these years I thought it was a stab at dark skinned women. Now I can listen to the song without shame.

Does anybody remember the Wham Rap Song "Enjoy What You Do"?. Here are the lyrics to refresh your memory:

Wham! Rap Lyrics
by Wham!

...
I kinda forgot about this song, but just found it on Morpheus. I only heard this song a few times on local radio, but I remember liking it when it first came out.

not really connected to the original thread, uhmm? lol but yep, it's from their debut album, before they made it big in the US, but it WAS a hit in Europe & the UK. I played this to death back in da days, I still know all the lyrics by heart lol

No, I'm connected to the thread, remember, I was the one who started it. lol Other rap songs were being mentioned, so I thought I would throw the Wham rap song out their for kicks and giggles. Nice to see that someone else remembers it. biggrin
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

To me (listening to it now) it STILL sounds like he's saying:

"I hate the dark, I want the light so I can see reaction"

Here's the lyrics from http://www.seeklyrics.com...th-Me.html

"I want a girl with action, 'control' like Janet Jackson
I hate the dark, I'm on the light so I can see reaction"

I fucking hate this line, it disrupts the whole mood for me. Even if he meant something else it still sounds highly questionable, especially around that time when people were SO heavy on that "light skinned girl" tip neutral And w/ the "redbone" line they deliver later, it doesn't surprise me at all:

"But in search of love that's how I'm livin
I want a girl to give me the same thing that I am givin
To her, from now till the day I depart
But she's got to be a redbone, a beautiful work of art"

sad

It's hard sometimes being nostalgic about stuff you still love after you realize things about it. I still love the move The Wiz despite the minstrel reminders all over it confused

UTFO, I missed this one!

Beats and Rhymes is the shit!

I had Beats and Rhymes on my ipod today as well as friends by whodini and jam on it by newcleus.

Old School Classics!

i'd say jam on it was my favourite track from around then

Yeah, "stuck" and colorstruck. I've got Ego trip's Rap Book of Lists. I've got to check to see if they've listed references to skin color. neutral

Had to check the egotrip's book. Under "10 Remarkably Racist Recordings" is "Dark Skin Girls" by Del the Funkee Homosapien. Never heard the song (I don't think); that's probably a good thing.

Speaking of light skin and devastin' Charli Baltimore is African-Am/German, so is Terminator X (Public Enemy).

That egotrip's crew don't miss a beat. smile

Dang, y'all are taking me back to 7th grade! What's next? "Itching for a Scratch," and "You be Illin'?" lol

OMG - great songs! I was just listenin' to Itchin for a Scratch the other day. Full Force's greatest hits disc is excellent. And You Be Illin' cracks me UP! My boyfriend had never heard it until a few months ago and he couldn't stop laughing at these lyrics:

Dinner, you ate it
There is none left
It was salty, with butter
And it was def

You proceeded to eat it
Cuz you were in the mood
But holmes you should have read
It was a can of dog food!

lol

As I recall, Itchin' for a Scratch was by the Force MD's...

another nugget of trivia.. UTFO stood for Untouchable Force Organization..

I was a real rap fan back then..mid 80's... although Prince was always my number 1 choice. twocents
"..Just close your eyes and count to 10...and when U open 'em I'll B standing naked with nuthin' but a SMILE on.."

Okay, here's a little bit of trivia (I guess). U.T.F.O.'s Kangol and Whistle's Jazz are brothers as are Jalil (Whodini) and Doctor Ice (U.T.F.O.).
