OK, so now that Brandy and Monica have both released LPs lately. Which do you find better: Afrodisiac or After The Storm?

I gotta give it to Brandy. The album is consistent and it jams. Monica had me with "Knock Knock," but I got more fuel off of her club mixes (Scumfrog's vocal mix of "So Gone" and That Kid Chris' mix of "Get It Off") than the tracks off her LP.

if she'll spell it properly, I'll give it to Brandy.

Vocally, Brandy has Monica beat. As a matter of fact, she leads the pact as far as young female R&B vocalists are concerned, IMO. Yeah, Beyonce and Monica can sing, but they have the tendency to hollar (especially Beyonce) and Brandy does runs like it's no one's business! They're precise, unique and clear. :thumbusp:

Yeah, Beyonce does have a tendency to overdo the melisma. Monica's vocals always sounded lazy to me. I like how raspy Brandy's vocals are. Just like Cinnie said, it's warm.

Did you catch her on Leno last night? I hate that she was lip-syncing and her background singers were flat as hell.

Speaking of Tim, he was in his PRIME when he made Baby Girl's "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number.

That would be Mr. Robert Kelly, not Mr. Tim Mosley.

Yeah, Tim didn't work with Aaliyah until '97s "One In A Million" LP. Ohhh, that was a hot album. ::thinking about "4 Page Letter"::

Brandy is my girl and all, but to say she sings better than Monica you have to be riding that yellow bus with the tented windows. Monica is the real deal who's vocals are second to none. True Brandy's voice is warm but Monica's is rich, deep and only gets better with time.

Agreed. I think Monica's voice sounds better than Brandy's, but Monica's last album was weak as hell to me. I only liked 3 or 4 songs out of what 18. I still like Monica's first album the best. Plus, Monica nails those ballads. "Slow Jam" featuring Usher was hot. I wish they had done a video to it, because I have the perfect video idea for that song, too bad it's super old. I also love "For You I Will" and every ballad on her first album was on point. The only ballad that I like from Brandy is "Have You Ever?" She really tore it up on that song, especially the end. But, I might have to go and pick this one up...it sounds interesting, even though I hate that first single.

That's where I disagree. I think Monica has a tremendous voice, but she doesn't necessarily with talent that has the caliber and clout that the people behind the scene for Brandy do. Brandy does that hushed, whisper voice that I don't like too much. Plus she looks like an alien. wink

But really though, I like Mrs... err, Miss... err, Ms. B-Rocka.

I LOVE After the Storm! It's the only album I have of Monica's though, and a lot of people say her first was better, so I'm definitely gonna have to check it out. I loved all of the singles, like "Just One of them Days", "Before You Walk Out My Life", and "Like This and Like That".

If you love "After the Storm", you're going to adore her first one. It's good from beginning to end. I love her remix to "Just One of Them Days (Don't Take It Personal)" or as we liked to call it back in the day, "The PMS song". lol It's like Aaliyah's "One In A Million" album for me. I can listen to both of these from beginning to end, because all the songs are fantastic. "One In A Million", "Monica", and "Never Say Never" are must have albums from these three. Everything else they did is peanuts compared to these albums.
