What bands/artists debuted with double albums?

Just wondering how many bands/artists debuted with double albums. The only one I can think of is The Mothers Of Invention-Freak Out! but there must be more than that. Anybody know anymore?

nod Chicago's first 3 albums were double albums. And as far as I know they had about 4 double (studio) albums in their catalog.

nod I have to wonder how they got away with it...

I believe "Chicago IV" was a live triple LP...not sure why they haven't included it in their reissue series, tho.

I wonder how they got away with it all the time! Columbia gave them a whole lotta freedom back then, but I don't know of anybody else on any label that released that much material with their first 3 releases. Today that type of thing is not even a consideration for three consecutive albums, much less the very first three in a career.

Great trivia question btw. thumbs up!

Freak Out and Chicago Transit Authority. Two really good, really different (for their time) albums. Both those records still hold up although The Mothers is probably an acquired taste. It seems hard enough for artists to come up with enough solid material for a single release now days.

More trivia:
A little known group called Gypsy (originally The Underbeats from Minneapolis), which took over CTA's house band gig at the Whiskey A Go-Go in L.A. after Chicago Transit Authority was released, had a double album debut.

The 70s R&b band Rose Royce debuted in 1976 with the 2-LP soundtrack "Car Wash".It contained one song by the Pointer Sisters and a track by Richard Pryor (basically, his entire cameo appearance in the film),but for the most part,it was a Rose Royce album. Not sure if this counts,but...
