Courtney Love Hospitalized!

Just hours after a judge on the West Coast issued an arrest warrant for the troubled rocker after she failed to appear in court, she was rushed to New York's Bellevue Hospital for an undisclosed condition.


Love's L.A.-based lawyer, Michael Rosenstein, who was in court today on her behalf, confirmed that Love was hospitalized for a "serious" matter, adding that it was not drug related, nor was it a suicide attempt. "It's a gynecological medical condition," he said.


A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department confirmed that an EMS crew responded to a call at Love's address for a "miscarriage," but the rep would not identify the caller as Love.


Officials at Bellevue Hospital refused to comment. Paparazzi photos showed an obviously distressed Love being wheeled into the hospital on a stretcher.


Love had been scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles on a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon. The charge stems from an April 25 incident at ex-boyfriend Jim Barber's house in which Love allegedly attacked another woman with a liquor bottle and a flashlight.


When she failed to show this morning, Court Commissioner Dennis E. Mulcahy issued the bench warrant. He also ruled that Love forfeited her $55,000 bail, and he set a new bail of $150,000.


Rosenstein told the court that Love was in New York and was "confused" about whether her presence was required in Los Angeles.


"Miss Love has no intention to hide from these charges," Rosenstein said outside court. "She will be coming before the court...and giving a full defense to the action."


Medical condition notwithstanding, Love is officially a fugitive, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.


Health matters notwithstanding, Love is due in a Beverly Hills court next Thursday for a pretrial hearing on two felony counts of illegal drug possession. Love has pleaded not guilty to having a stash of unprescribed painkillers at her home. That arrest came after Love reportedly OD'd following an October meltdown at her Barber's house.


On the following day, Love is due to be sentenced in Los Angeles for smashing Barber's windows last Oct. 2 while under the influence of cocaine. She has pleaded guilty to that misdemeanor charge.


And on Sept. 7, she's due back in Manhattan Criminal Court on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a microphone-tossing incident in a New York nightclub. She has pleaded innocent in that case.


Last month, Love scrapped her summer tour in support of her solo debut, America's Sweetheart, due to all her legal hassles.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Fugitive rocker Courtney Love has been admitted to a private New York hospital after being released from a weekend stay at a public medical facility in Manhattan, her criminal defense lawyer told Reuters on Tuesday.

Los Angeles-based attorney Michael Rosenstein said, however, that he had no information on the nature of Love's condition or the type of hospital where she was currently a patient.

He said that a warrant for her arrest, issued by a Los Angeles judge last Friday when Love skipped a hearing in a felony assault case, remained in effect but she was still not in custody.

A spokeswoman for the L.A. County District Attorney's Office said prosecutors had no information on her whereabouts.

Earlier Tuesday, Love's civil attorney, Robert Ring, said during an unrelated Santa Monica court hearing that a legal guardian had been appointed for the singer and that she was in an East Coast "institution."

Ring did not elaborate except to describe Love as "a troubled rock star" in a hearing over a lawsuit alleging that she owes money to another law firm that previously represented her. Ring declined further comment on the matter when contacted later by telephone.

A Los Angeles judge last Friday issued an arrest warrant for Love, 40, after she failed to appear for an arraignment on a felony assault charge stemming from an altercation in April. Rosenstein told the judge she was in New York and had been confused about whether her presence was required for the proceeding.

Hours later, Rosenstein confirmed to Reuters and other media that Love had been admitted to Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan for treatment of an unspecified gynecological condition. A source close to the performer told Reuters that Love had been discharged from Bellevue on Monday.

Widely published photographs this week showed the singer, visibly distraught and dressed in a camisole, being carried on a stretcher in handcuffs from her Manhattan apartment by paramedics on Friday.

Media accounts quoted neighbors has saying Love had spent much of the previous week roaming local streets, asking strangers for cigarettes, peering suspiciously into parked cars and claiming she was being followed.

The reports of erratic behavior follow mounting legal problems. In May, Love pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of being under the influence of cocaine, and she was scheduled to appear later this week for a sentencing hearing in that case. She faces separate drug possession charges in Beverly Hills and a reckless endangerment charge in New York City.

Courtney Love has said that her main concern is keeping custody of her daughter, but all her actions seem like a cry for help.
