i'm a "rid of me"/"to bring you my love" PJ fan...i can't get into much after that, as much as i've tried. i just saw a picture on yahoo today of her performing where she's bent over and you can see her bare hoo-hoo plain as day. she's not shy. i like that about her.

HUGE PJ Harvey fan, here. Seen every tour since the first one, but really not feeling the new album all that much. A couple of almost-gems here and there, but mostly feels undercooked to me. Oh, well. She'll be back.

For a long time I was a fan like Anxiety. She kinda lost me for awhile from Dancehall on. But lately I've been getting back into Stories and Is This Desire? and realizing what I missed out on. She hasn't lost a thing. She's just channeled her intensity in another direction. Now her sound is more elegant and pained instead of rough and violent. It's all good.

(please) . i can't find the exact URL to the pic now, but it was posted on a yahoo groups fan page dedicated to the peej, and there's a thread posted about the pic on the sonic youth web site fan forums that has the pic up...i'm sure if you give it time it's gonna be all over the internet and you'll eventually get tired of seeing polly jean's shaved lollapalooloo.

I just showed a little initiative and managed to find the photo on the SY site. It's a nice shot, but it's not going to replace my copy of Swank.
Actually (as someone on the SY board has pointed out) if you look closely it appears as though she may be wearing a very sheer undergarment. [This message was edited Sat Jul 10 14:16:31 2004 by flipwilson]

I agree with that - I find her music unpleasant and inpenetrable. I hate to use this cliche, but I really think this is a case of the emperor being naked. But apparently Robert Christgau thinks she's the saviour of rock n' roll, so who's to say? I'll give her credit - she has to be the least vain female musician on the face of the planet. In fact, if you look at her early albums (dry and rid of me) she seems to have consciously chosen unflattering pictures of herself. Bummer. You win some, you lose some I guess. I was wondering if you'd checked out the new one yet. At least you gave it a chance. A lot of people once they're over an artist wouldn't bother.
