i'm a "rid of me"/"to bring you my love" PJ fan...i can't get into much after that, as much as i've tried. i just saw a picture on yahoo today of her performing where she's bent over and you can see her bare hoo-hoo plain as day. she's not shy. i like that about her.

HUGE PJ Harvey fan, here. Seen every tour since the first one, but really not feeling the new album all that much. A couple of almost-gems here and there, but mostly feels undercooked to me. Oh, well. She'll be back. confused

For a long time I was a fan like Anxiety. She kinda lost me for awhile from Dancehall on. But lately I've been getting back into Stories and Is This Desire? and realizing what I missed out on. She hasn't lost a thing. She's just channeled her intensity in another direction. Now her sound is more elegant and pained instead of rough and violent. It's all good.

i can't find the exact URL to the pic now, but it was posted on a yahoo groups fan page dedicated to the peej, and there's a thread posted about the pic on the sonic youth web site fan forums that has the pic up...i'm sure if you give it time it's gonna be all over the internet and you'll eventually get tired of seeing polly jean's shaved lollapalooloo.

I just showed a little initiative and managed to find the photo on the SY site. It's a nice shot, but it's not going to replace my copy of Swank.

Actually (as someone on the SY board has pointed out) if you look closely it appears as though she may be wearing a very sheer undergarment.

I saw that comment too...if that's the case, then Miss Polly Jean has redefined "camel toe". lol

Yeah, I'll guarantee that pic will be showing up at every "camel toe" website in existence - it sets a new "gold standard" for the medium. That's the holy grail of camel toe pictures!

I agree with that - I find her music unpleasant and inpenetrable. I hate to use this cliche, but I really think this is a case of the emperor being naked. But apparently Robert Christgau thinks she's the saviour of rock n' roll, so who's to say?

I'll give her credit - she has to be the least vain female musician on the face of the planet. In fact, if you look at her early albums (dry and rid of me) she seems to have consciously chosen unflattering pictures of herself.

i loved rid of me - i thought steve albini's production on it was a lot of fun, and i loved the crudeness and the irreverence of it....to bring you my love was a very camp album to me - it was very drag queen and wink-wink melodramatic, though i do think there are some beautiful songs on that album and i love listening to this one as well. after that, i think she just started getting....i dunno...precious. i've been wanting to like is this desire ever since it came out, but it just kinda falls short every time i listen to it. it's good cleaning or reading/napping music, i guess. louse point was a big thumbs down. i couldn't get with stories from the city - it was just too far removed from what got me into pj in the first place, and i was starting to realize that what i enjoyed about her was a bit of a fluke that she'll most likely never revisit...and the latest album is proof of that. i think the woman's talented, and i hope she does well. there are some artists you stick with no matter what stylistic changes they make, and there are some artists you're more fair-weathered about, cuz you like a particular album or song more than you like what the artist has to offer overall. pj would fall into the latter category w/ me.

Bummer. You win some, you lose some I guess.

I was wondering if you'd checked out the new one yet. At least you gave it a chance. A lot of people once they're over an artist wouldn't bother.
