I just listened to the American Idol winner torture and murder our national anthem and I felt motivated to start this topic.

She is terrible! Brutal! Awful! Since when is oversinging a talent. She gives me a headache.

She sang the National Anthem before the Major League Baseball Allstar game in case anyone who missed it was wondering.

I don't spend much time in this forum but that Michael Jackson warning at the top of the page made me want to post some MJ topics.

Why are you surprised by this. I'm not claiming to a music expert, but most of the AM Idol singers are garbage. Phyllis Hyman (R.I.P) would have whipped Fantasia's ass twice a day if they had sang in a competition. Cherrelle, Shirley Murdock, Cherly Lynn, Patti Austin, Angela Bofil, all of the Emotions and MS. Labelle need to grab this girl and throw her in a classroom and never let her leave until she can sound better than them.

I just posted in the other Fantasia thread. Again, I liked her on AI. I thought her voice was unique and not the typical powerhouse diva-style vocals you get from sisters who sang in the church. But, her National Anthem was simply not tight--AT ALL! Leave the flourishes for AI. I'm just glad she didn't end the anthem with "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!"

Now the NL is losing. It's Fantasia's fault!

Empty melisma will get you farther in today's biz than actual ability to convey genuine emotion through song.

I guess I'm gonna be the lone voice of dissension here. I think Fantasia's got a great voice. Didn't hear her bludgeon the National Anthem, but everyone has a bad day, I guess. As far as AI talent goes, I think the 3 that have won all have good voices.

I'm not a fan of Fantasia but I do admire her 4 taking such a hard standard like "Summertime" and nail it(in her OWN way without sounding like the rest). She gets my props 4 that.

As her NA pre4mance which I didn't see, like some said. Many go through off-day, you can't make a judgment about her ability on some mishap and DISMISS the rest of her pre4mances.

I think she sounds soulful, I saw her cover Singed Sealed Delivered, and I was rooting for her ever since!

Many singers totally ruin the national anthem by over-singing it and going on and on with the notes. Fantasia did this last night and she ruined the song. She sounded horrible! I like her voice at times, but last night she sucked almost as bad as Roseanne did all those years ago.

Average Voice? You're kidding, right? Of course, I'm not gonna deny somebody their own opinion, but I love her voice! I think it's incredible, and she found a good group of people to work with that bring out the best in her voice.

I'm not going to retract what I posted earlier, I'll just add that she does need some time to develop her own style. She's probably locked in for a eon with the record contract she has and what came with being on AM Idol. She may be better suited for a long career than Rubes and Kelly. Rubes is just completely boring. He could just as well be a session background singer, He doesn't stand out from the rest of the new R & B male singers.
