Suggest some musicians for me to explore

Hey all you music buffs. I've hit a lull in my musical journey, and am looking for some new stuff.

I'm looking for great musicians in rock, folk, funk, soul, blues, jazz, or any combination of these. Not vocalists! Well, I mean, you can reccomend songs with vox, but I don't want to hear anything about great singers. I want great musicians, bands, etc.

You guys have never let me down. Since the days of the black and purp org you have opened up my world to:

Miles Davis
Stanley Clarke
Johnny Watson
Frank Zappa
David Bowie
Jaco Pastorius
Thelonius Monk
Charles Mingus

and many many more. Keep up the good work! smile

Check out David Garza. Great tunesmith. Plays all kinds of instruments ala Prince. He has a boxset out tomorrow w/ a dvd for only 27.98 at BEST BUY. But if your a newbie to his stuff I recommend picking up This Euphoria. Like prince he's constantly writing & releasing material usually on his own label because the majors can't keep up. Check out his website at - davidgarza.com.

I'll second that...

After having neglected his music for many years, I recently rediscovered Brian Eno's music. His first four albums are fairly classic, and Music for Airports is a bonafide work of genius.

I should give due to Sassybritches for prompting me to listen to these albums again - wouldn't have happened if that Eno thread didn't exist.

Stereolab nod

Emperor Tomato Ketchup or Dots and Loops would be a good place to start.

I am familiar with about 50% of those names, and I like 90% of them, so your list may come in handy.
