Report: 7.07 Upper Room at Montreal Jazz Fest

This night was the topper thus far. Gi Dussault and I saw as many bands and diversity in music as we could. Kinda felt like the Upper Room radio show onstage. Jean-Francois Groulx Quartette kicked it off with some great jazz from this Quebec band. First goose-bump inducing moment of the festival. Next, we sauntered to a very big unexpected surprise: Doug Macleod. This guy was incredible. Just his acoustic guitar and his voice. He held the audience rapt with his humor, stories, playing, and singing. Blues at its best. Talked about whiskey, women, payin' the bills and his love for his wife of 25 years. Can't recommend this American musician enough www.doug-macleod.com. Next, on to the blues stage to see Montreal's Carl Tremblay. His band was stellar and this harpist knows ho to put on a show.

It started to rain a bit and we found a nice tree to stand under to watch Puerto Rico's Plena Libre play the real latin vibe. This Grammy-nominated band can rock the party. A cool sight was next. We went to catch Tortured Soul who we heard had a Jamiroquai/Stevie Wonder sound to them. They had a nice funk dance groove going but didn't see the band as they were playing. When we turned the corner, we could see a trio of bass, keys and drummer. The drummer was the lead singer which was a change of pace considering the infectious sounds. They were tight. Only saw a bit of Yerba Buena's show but they are outstanding. Finished the night with the show from veteran blues legends Roomful of Blues. They never disappoint.
