Barry Manilow

Went to see Barry last night at the same theater where Prince will be in 3 weeks. There was alot of talk when Barry and Prince were battling it out on the Independent Album Chart a few weeks back. I have to admit - these are two of my favorite artists (would you say I have diverse tastes?).

Anyway, Mr. Manilow is an awesome performer with 20+ years of awesome music to choose from including some great new stuff. If he comes to your town, open your mind and give him a try. He puts on a great show.

I'm glad to see there are other Barry Manilow fans on this board.I've been a fan of his for years. In the 70s,his songs were ALL over the radio.I love "Could It Be Magic",that is one of the underrated classics from the 70s....check out that haunting instrumental segment that occurs just after the first chorus.Drives me crazy everytime:)

I also love his songs "Can't Smile Without You","I Write The Songs","Ships","This One's For You",and the irresistibly catchy "Copacabana".He's the type of artist that critics like to bash, but his fans know the truth:)

It's great that you saw him in concert. He played my area last year, but alas,I didn't go.I WILL catch him this time, though.

Yes it's so good to see Barry back. For the most part 70's artists are fairing well now-a-days because the music they offered was substantial. People never thought Barry would have a top 10 album again(even if it is a greatest hits record), but that's just goes to show.....

I'm a big Barry fan who will go out and grab a copy of Ultimate Manilow, his latest cd, when it's in the used c.d. rack (I'm cheap that way, no disrespect 2 Mr. Manilow).

Anyway, don't u think it ironic that he's written almost all of his hit songs, except one of his biggest...titled, "I Write The Songs"....I find that so amusing...well, maybe it's just me.

OMG....I am so glad I registered here today!!! I can finally come out of the closet...HELLO MY NAME IS NEPTUNE AND I AM A BARRY MANILOW FAN!! lol Man, I am totally sweating the new greatest hits cd they show in tv commercials.

Does anyone remember when he used to have tv specials? Did I just date myself? I remember seeing them when I was little (I use to make my mom watch Barry). The first song I ever cried to was a Barry song. On one of his specials he sang "This Song" and explained he wrote it because his grandfather died. And when he sang it the little skit either had an old man in it portraying hin grandfather or they showed pix of him. It was so sad. Every time I think or see Barry, my mind goes back to that.

At work when it got just too tedious and we could take a break, 3 of my partners in crime and I would burst into song. "Copa Cabana" was one of our standards. People thought we were crazy. But hey, it is the hottest club north of Havana!

I have Barry's 4-CD box set and it contains a bonus video that has performances from his TV specials in the 70s.It shows the performance dedicated to his grandfather. If I'm not mistaken,I think it's during the song "This One's For You",which is one of my favorites by him.
