You are 100% right on two fronts: 1 - You don't know much about Hip Hop culture 2 - "Gangster's Paradise" did kill 'em all, the whole hip hop genre. After hip hops golden age (93 - early 96), once Coolio's GP dropped, the whole shit became commercial, cheap & tacky. Puffy went from a dope remixer / producer to a shiny suit sellout, and while De La Soul were singing "It might blow up, but it won't go POP", that's exactly what happened with Coolio, It blew up...and went POP!
