Sly Stone was a hip radio DJ in San Fransisco round '66-67,
also working as a producer & musician 4 other acts. When forming he's own act "Sly & the Family Stone",Sly himself was gonna B the bassplayer.A female fan of his radioshow told him 2 check out this amazing bassplayer at this club tho',saying he'd B perfect 4 his band. Sly went down 2 that club & saw Larry Graham who had this unique way of playing. So then,he took Larry his band & the rest is history. The first album came out in 1967 A whole new thing. The band was on their height in 1969 with the albumStand!, the hitsingle "Hot fun in the summertime" & their performance on the Woodstock festival. Along with the success came the drugs paranoia & during the making of There's a riot going down Sly played most part himself, along with whoever happened 2 B in the studio at the time. Larry Graham & the drumer Greg Errico left the band in 1972 & Larry's "Graham Cental Station" took off.He can still B heard on a few tracks on Fresh tho' that came out in '73. I never heard anything about Sly coverting 2 Judism so I don't know about that. /peace Manki

I have always wondered how Jesse got pull with Sly and not Prince. But I think a lot of that had to do with Jesse and Sly being labelmates at A&M Records at the time.

I also think Prince was'nt much 4 the idea of working 2gether with another superstar at that time.In the 80's he wanted 2 B his own man..... ,,just like Liberace ; ) /peace Manki
