Talking Book
Music of My Mind
Innervisions
Original Musiquarium
(rare that a best-of set is one of my favorites)
I also really like the Jungle Fever soundtrack.

I was just listening to Characters this morning, and that album is so frustrating to me. For every brilliant song on it, there's an awful song to bring it down,

With Each Beat of My Heart
Dark 'n' Lovely
Cryin' Through the Night
Skeletons
-- I think they're all great songs.

And then there's...

Get It
In Your Corner
Galaxy Paradise
Come Let Me Make Your Love Come Down
-- I'm just not a fan of any of these. At worst, they sound pretty dated.

I don't need to go back and forth, but if your opinion differs, I'd love to hear it. Mind you, I love Stevie, but I'm partial to his 70s stuff. I'm really hit or miss with the 80s.

Oh, I feel you completely.

Stevie's music was in a whole 'nutha direction in the 70s than the stuff he was doing in the 80s. Overall, I think Characters is a solid album. I remember falling in love with the melody of "Galaxy Paradise" and the strange sounds from his synth more than anything. "In Your Corner" for some reason reminds me of something Prince would've done for maybe the Controversy sessions. Although they may not be the best tunes, I wouldn't go so far to call them "awful" and I don't think they bring the album down at all.

Honestly, I think Stevie kinda lost a bit of his musical swagger after In Square Circle, but that's not to say that he fell off or anything like that.

He did lose some, but I agree with you completely - he's never been bad. Though I don't love everything on Characters, what I do enjoy, I really love. One things for certain - Skeletons is a good one to bump nice and loud with the car windows rolled down. smile And no matter how hard I try (even though I loved the song before the movie came out), I cannot help but associate that song with Die Hard. lol

lol Exactly! Again, one I knew before the movie, but it's stuck there in my mind, associated with that damn limo driver!
