How does The Police's 1993 box set, Message In A Box: The Complete Recordings work out for you? I have one of the Police's album, but it's just a greatest hits compilation called Every Breath You Take: The Classics. I listened to it the other day and I was just amazed at their craft and songs. I listened to that album all the way through and there was absolutely no filler or album tracks. Then, I saw a box set on www.amazon.com called Message In A Box. I thnk that should of been my first and only Police purchase, since the set contains all of the songs they recorded from 1978-1983. The compilation I have (Every Breath You Take) isn't enough. Do you think I should get this for my birthday? Is it a great box set to discover? What do you think of it. Check me out and add me on:

The 12 cuts you've got on your disc just scratch the surface of their music.
If you're digging those, here's just a short list of what you're missing. I love that fucking box set!! Compiles non-album tracks, b-sides AND all their albums on 4 discs. I wish I could get more box sets that feel this complete. HIGHLY recommended and I think you can get it on the cheap from Columbia House CD club.

Absolutely superb set. Excellent sound, of course you get all their albums but also 24 tracks unavailable anywhere else. Fabulous band, timeless music, great quality.
Note: I think the remastered albums released last year have slightly superior sound quality, but other than that, I have no regrets about buying the box. [This message was edited Fri Jul 2 19:28:04 2004 by VoicesCarry]

I've got it too. Love it!
You can't really go wrong with it. It's everything they released up to that point (they released some live stuff after that). I got it ultra-cheap from BMG.

If you love the music of The Police, the box set is an item you simply must have. I've had it since the day it came out! I still listen to it for musical inspiration. Go get it NOW!

The box set is crammed with filler. Plenty of it. The Police had a policy of letting Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers get one song apiece on each album. These are always the disposable ones. Then once you factor in that "Zenyatta Mondatta" is rubbish, you're looking at most of a surplus CD. And then, unlike the recent CD reissues, the box hasn't been remastered, so while you may have every note The Blonde Cops officially released, you have them in less than stellar sound. Buy the albums instead, if you must. The first and last two are great. [This message was edited Sat Jul 3 0:47:58 2004 by Shapeshifter] There are three sides to every story.
