Anything would be better than that Bullshit Jimi Hendrix film that was made for Cable tv, there was nothing Hendrix about that film, and it made Jimi, a intelligent man, look foolish.

On top of that they had the wrong actor for the part. Not only did he not resemble Hendrix but he looked silly trying to imitate him!

I cringed at that movie, I know people who are not familiar with Hendrix or his work, and that film was thier only reference besides me, they made him look like a sell out on top of it, he always wanted to get in touch with a black audience, this is a known fact.

If you're showing any old ACTOR playing Jimi playing guitar, fans who can play guitar are going to be PISSED if it doesn't look like he's really playing.

True. but then again, what if the guy can play but can't play like Hendrix and doesn't have the acting chops to play the role? True musicians would be equally as pissed if it results in a bad movie.

For example, assuming Tom Hulce couldn't play piano, he still played a helluva Mozart. Even if he could play piano, he wouldn't be able to match Mozart, but he helped make the movie an Oscar-winner. So I'd much rather have an actor than a musician. The role and the movie are too important to me.

Good example namepeace. Tom Hulce was excellent playing Mozart. Overall, I believe they should get an unknown. But, I think they'll end up going with Andre 3000. I wish they wouldn't, but if The Hughes Bros. are behind it, that's they're first choice. We will see.

Thanks.

Another factor is going to be timing. Suppose Dre isn't hot by the time production starts, or the movie is released? If he's "over" by the time the movie is released (and let's say it takes 2.5 to 3 years, an eternity in a hip-hopper's career), then casual fans won't want to go. But even if he's still hot, and has the chops (or can fake his way through) to reenact Hendrix's performances, if he sucks as an actor, the true Hendrix fans will boycott or refuse repeat viewings. Either way, you're courting disaster for the studio, the directors and the "actor."

I love OutKast and TLB, and I think he's a hip-hop legend, but he gets a perm and plays a few chords and all of a sudden they're going to reincarnate Hendrix through him. That's quite a risk.

Again, u r dead on target. Most people who r in2 Jimi don't give a fuck about Andre. They rather see someone who CAN act and who CAN play. If it's an unknown, so be it. As long as it's true 2 Jimi's legacy, that's what matters 2 true Hendrix fans, not because Andre is strumming 3 chords in the "Hey Ya' video. If someone wants 2 do a movie on Bootsy, is Andre going 2 have 2 learn how 2 play bass, because he wears Bootsy's starglasses? Sure he will.
