Gi Dussault and I are up at the Montreal Jazz Fest until July 10th. Last night, we caught some excellent shows. Montreal music reviewer Jean-Yves Tremblay has joined us for the next two weeks. Started the night off with a great blues/rock concert by Jim Zeller. This Quebecois harp man has played the Montreal Jazz Fest 20 times and he is still a young cat. The show featured a great blend of blues, rock and even a tinge of reggae. Fave tunes were Night Train and Cool Running. Chicago guitarist Joe Jammer played the whole set with Zeller's band and showed great showmanship.

Next, we strolled though the Centre-Ville festival grounds and caught a great set by Calgary's Vicky y Masacote. This pianist-singer will definitely be featured on the Upper Room. Then, we made our way to see Chantal Chamberland who is an outstanding jazz singer-guitarist. The Montreal downtown area was packed and is a sure sign that live music is alive and well. We said hello to Chantal after the set.

Topped the night off with the show by blues-cajun band Glamour Puss. They had the crowd rockin' and reelin'

On tuesday night i visited the montrealjazzfest site and noticed that meshell was playing the following nite. So i went to her show, which was all jazz, she didnt sing at all. It was pretty good, but i was hoping she'd sing.
Anyhow, im planning on going to ani difranco on saturday nite and to the roots the 8th of July.
Maybe i'll see u guys around.

Camilleisfunky, great to know you are checking out the festival. Hope to meet you at some point.We usually are at the Blues Stage and also make our way around to check out the various stages. The festival always turns out to be a working/family vacation as my wife is originally from Montreal. We spent Sunday in Granby but now we are headed back to Montreal to see some shows tonight.
