Kylie got PAID!!!! Kylie stars at $100m bash
Nicola Webber, Herald Sun, 29th June 2004 Kylie Minogue pocketed $520,000 for a half-hour show at an Indian steel tycoon's wedding bash for his daughter. Guests were stunned when the petite Aussie superstar emerged on stage at the lavish nuptials at a mock castle outside Paris. Minogue thrilled more than 1000 wedding guests with a half-hour performance of songs, including Slow. Reports in India said Minogue was paid more than $17,000 a minute at the celebration for Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia. Vanisha, 23, is the daughter of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, who is believed to have spent almost $100 million on the five-day celebration held at various luxury locations last week icluding the Tuileries Gardens and a gallery at Versailles. Guests said Minogue's performance was a highlight of the sumptuous nuptials. They told how, just after midnight last Monday, a husky voice started singing off-stage. Within seconds Minogue emerged, wearing a short, black dress, and went on to wow the crowd with her performance. The Times of India quoted wedding guest Amit Rai as saying the grandeur was unreal. "I pinched myself when Kylie, singing at a private function for the first time, sang Slow," he said. "People didn't have dessert as her performance was more tempting." The Telegraph in India quoted another guest saying Minogue was paid $520,000 for her appearance. Minogue reportedly flew in on Mr Mittal's jet for the concert at Parc St-Cloud, near Paris. Hers was not the first celebrity appearance at a wedding. Elton John is believed to have been paid more than $1 million to entertain guests at James Packer's 1999 wedding to Jodie Meares. The singer had been forced to cancel his appearance at the wedding of David and Victoria Beckham earlier that year. And Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer had Wendy Matthews, Abba cover group Bjorn Again and the actor's band at their wedding.
