Man. I really don't like this song much. Sounds like a "O+>"-album reject; Prince circa 1992. I think it's weird that no one has mentioned "What Do U Want Me 2 Do?" I think that would make a nice single.

So really there isn't going to be any singles released to buy? They're just going to radio and to TV with a video? That may work Stateside in terms of promotion, but not in the rest of the world.

Musicology will die a death quite quickly this way. confused

Also, I don't know if it's been mentioned but NPG/Columbia won't release any physical singles... or CD singles as most know them as. I'm pretty sure that'll save both parties alot of cash on distribution. I assume a video will be released.

What is the point in "releasing a single" unless you are actually going to release a single!? Something people can walk into a shop and pick up off a shelf, or at least order from the net. Radio stations can play stuff from the album anyway. Give me the good old days of a proper single, with an extended version of the title track and a previously unreleased B-side, anyday. Apart from anything else, that would do wonders for raising his profile.

I hope this is an official banner. "A Million Days" is the strongest and most enjoyable song on the album. My Australian release version of Musicology boasts a sticker "containing the smashes Musicology & Call My Name". Call my name has no place as a single. A Million Days carries all Princes trademarks.....Guitar solo, great lyrics, screaming, a great melody and his most under-rated ability- RELATABILITY! No other artist can write a song that captures emotion that you can relate to so well. #1 on the charts for A million Days if he makes a good video.

That "cheesy" spoken segment is not unlike "The Most BeautifuL Girl in the World" when he says "....and if the stars ever fell one by one from the sky....." And we all know how massive a worldwide hit that single was. Don't underestimate the relevance of the words he says. many listeners, fans and casual listeners alike, will relate and respond to those words. if you can relate to a song....you more often than not, tend to sing it.....and BUY it.

Good, tho I was expecting Call my Name, cause it's a sticker on the album, then Cinnamon Girl.
I couldn't care what he releases, just as long as he stays in the public eye.

Yes....I only got to see the musicology video when it was shown on cduk. The only reason they showed it was because it was an upcoming single release. If he makes more videos, but does NOT release singles we will probably see zilch of those videos in the UK. sad Also most radio stations are chart/new release driven. Musicology got reasonable airplay on radio 2 and some play on other stations due it being an upcomming single release. Now its not being released I assume they will stop playing it. The album has already been album of the week. So I guess thats it until he tours here....bummer!

and this is what i have to say about the singles from musicology:

eek what??!!! what about illusion, coma, pimp and circumstance??!! that one and call my name make the most sense i think/ they both have the most potential for being really catchy/

Ehh..what exactly does it mean when they don´t release "physical singles" or CD singles ??
You mean they will shoot a video for a song with no single to buy so that people will buy the whole album, or like the Dolphin video which also didn´t have a single (or album at the time ).
I´m afraid I did´t quite catch your drift...no single ( or maxi single with remixes or other songs ) is planned to be released ???

From what I understand... and I can't confirm, there won't be any CD singles released off the album. But take that for what it's worth... I'm being called a liar for passing something along. Big mistake on my part.

It's actually a cropped screen capture. The website won't let you save images. The original is actually a moving gif file.

Naw, don't let those ppl drive you away. Not everyone is gonna accuse you of being a liar. I for one won't.

You know, about A Million Days, the only thing that could stop it from being a hit (imo) is its production.

It doesn't have the polished production that all of today's music has. Not sure if that'll be a problem for it or not. I sure as hell hope not though, it's a great song.

I seem to recall when the album first came out about a month ago, almost everyone here was praising how great A Million Days was (me included). Now that there's news that this could be the next single, the majority now seem to be saying how awful it is. Huh?!?!?? Did I miss something?? This is by FAR the catchiest track on the album and should've been the lead off single. Then, we'd be lookat Musicology still being in the Top 3 album list, instead of probably dropping to between slots 7-10! Now all that's needed is a clever, A+ quality, funky ass video to go along with it, and he's off to the races again. It also wouldn't hurt if he released Call My Name to R&B radio too, like Warner Bros. did with the Diamonds & Pearls album.

(Glad I looked at who wrote this cuz there are 2 AlexNeverminds here...quite confusing) lol

Right? That was my frost reaction to this thread. First everyone is praising it and then once it is "decided" as a single people start to moan.

JFive: Don't listen to people here who call you a liar. If you say you found it and didn't make it up...fine...time will tell. You obviously sparked something here on this thread. 1/2 want it to be so 1/2 do not. My only issue is that this info can't be verified anywhere and the pic you link to is from your site (for whatever reasons). I think people here are over false info (there's been some of that as of lately due to P being in the spotlight)...and are going to want some validity as I am positive others have checked out NPGMC & HQ for this info.

For now, I'll wait and see. Personally I hope it's true as I really like that song and hope he'll include it on his set list (which would be so, if this is the next single) If it's genuine, we'll know eventually. In the end it really doesn't matter, now does it?

At first I was like: that sounds like a cheesy, and "oldfashioned" (in a negative way) Prince pop/rock song". confused But after repeated listenings the song turned out to be very catchy and it has really grown on me, although I'll always like his funk/r&b stuff better than his pop/rock efforts.

Anyway, I think this song is one of the best choices to be the next single (in terms of mass appeal). Another good pick might be the funky "Pimp, Coma etc" track. I think this one could be a big hit, because the beat is sounding kinda "modern", while the rhythm guitar is "old school, classic Prince". The lyrics are funny and would provide some cool storyline to the video.

Whatever, in the end I don't give a fuck about what song will be released, I just care about the music and the rest is not really important to me. Although it is nice to see that lil' Prince is doing well at the moment. He seems more happy these days and it's good to notice that publicity is finally concentrating on his work again (tour, new album), instead of all these stories about Prince's "weird" (business) behavior that we had to bear the last ten years. He is finally getting the respect he deserves for his music and his live shows.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

People, people. When I bought the cd from the store, there was this big o' cheesy sticker announcing "Musicology" and "Call my name". Now, i have not known a record company to list singles then not release them, at least not to radio.

JFive you are nutty but thanks for the laugh anyway. hug
