Meet the new moderators! Hey everyone, the day has finally come! I'm very pleased to welcome some more moderators into the fold on the org. They will help out in various forums, and give Matt and Dansa a bit of a break, so that not everything is on their (and my) shoulders, alone.
The new moderators I've selected are (in alphabetical order):
They'll all be learning the moderation ropes, and I know I can count on everyone to give them a warm 'congrats'! As a reminder, you can see who the forum mods are on the thread overview page for each forum... Welcome onboard new mods! I'm very pleased you guys volunteered; I think this will be a great improvement for the org, to help spread the work around a bit, give Matt and Dansa a bit of a breather, get more around-the-clock coverage, and more "eyes" to help out in general.  Whoa, am I the only one who thinks that there are waaay too many moderators now? I guess if the amount of moderators per room remains the same it will be (sort of) ok, but if we in each room will have to please more than the current two, then the org will turn into npgmc censorshipwise.
Also, I think it´s a bad idea since every mod has their own tolerance level and if there are different moderators all over the place it´s hard to know where the line is drawn. I think it was confusing enough when Dansa let something go and Ian cracked down on it the next day. I understand that the current moderators need more help, but this many? Example: I'll be primarily responsible for the Musician's Hangout. Good deal if you ask me. By going to each forum, you should see who is the moderator(s) for that forum. Personally, I think that we (the mod squad) are going to have to work together to be consistent in the way we do things, while at the same time allowing for our own styles to shine through. Speaking for myself, it would be a nightmare if the org ever became known as notoriously heavyhanded in its approach to moderation, and part of the reason I expressed an interest in doing this is because I've seen too many situations (not necessarily on here) of unfortunate, unnecessarily stifling moderation, and I want to try to embrace the responsibilities of this kind of role in a way that makes us all feel comfortable, happy and included (as best I can, anyway). The concept of community is really inspiring and important to me. Free speech is very important to me. I'm going to probably make some stupid mistakes and piss some people off, but hopefully I can learn from that, atone for it, and move on as someone smarter and stronger. I think everyone who's been chosen is fantastic. I really look up to Dansa for the work she's done, and what can I say about Matt and Ben? I'm very excited about this. And I hope folks will keep me (and all of us, for that matter) in check. It's important for me to know how I'm doing. Thanks for what you had to say, Vibrator. | |

I think the mods being so many is a great thing! Then it will finally be impossible to pit mods against each other, and there are more people to check what's REALLY going down. This way things get less secretive as well | |
