A while ago, I asked Boris this same question...he replied that Prince played all instruments except for sax, which was played by Eric Leeds...Prince did the drums.

That may have been Madhouse 8...16 appears to be a more collaborative effort, but I am not certain.

Hope this helps a little.

Yes, Prince plays drums on all the Madhouse tracks,
apart from 3 tracks on '16' where Sheila E plays drums.

In fact Prince plays pretty much everything apart from
sax on most of the Madhouse material.

'8' was released Jan 21st 1987

'16' was released Nov 18th 1987

the first version of '24' was completed Dec 1988 & mastered in Jan 1989, but was never released.

a second version (this time called '26') was assembled in early 1991, but the 'Madhouse' name was dropped and it was released as 'Times Squared' by Eric Leeds (with the addition of one extra track)

a third version of '24' is recorded in 1994 with the NPG and Eric Leeds, again the album was shelved. Though the track '17' was released on the 1-800-NEW-FUNK compilation album.

'The State We're In' is by a completely different
band called 'Madhouse'. Nothing at all to do with
Prince or Eric Leeds.

Actually it says that he was credited as playing drums. In the Prince world, that could mean nothing and everything!

The drummer is Sheila on Madhouse 8 & 16.

Don't make me say it again.

There was also the version of Madhouse that was put
together to tour as the support act with the Sign O'
the Times tour in 1987. This line up never recorded
any studio material, and consisted of...

Eric Leeds - Sax
Levi Seacer Jr - Bass
Dr. Fink - Keyboards
Dale Alexander - Drums

In the advertisements for the 8 album in rockmagazines there was also mention of Austra Chanel as keyboardist. This is also a fake name (and another Prince pseudonym).
