I wouldn't be surprised if they found enough acoustic version of songs in the vault to put together as an album.

Best we'll get is a two track single called Acoustic Jams For Fams: Volume 1, with no follow-up at any point in the future

I'm sure they could source enough material to release a 2 disc or something like a 30 song playlist
of his hits performed (semi) unplugged in the studio. That might apeal to a broad audience?

But I would only find something like that interesting if it was one of several releases in the same
year.

I can't deal with this 1 release (at most) a year strategy anymore. Not when there is so much stuff
in the vault.

I also find it a bit sad that the way the new estate communicates makes it so that during
the celebration we are all just talking about and hoping for news about some new music - finally.

They should make sure they have a decent release schedule and lots of projects going on
that they inform on regularly.

And the celebration could then lay the sole focus on prince's life and talent and music and legacy,
told through those who worked with him, learned from him and through live music and events and
exhibits etc.

Now, the week of celebrating prince is somewhat marred by us being anxious to learn about what
they have planned and most likely bitching about piss poor choices confused

But I'm sure that they consider that to be 100% on us, too.

Seriously?

No offense to Mr. Spicer, but in context, the phrasing couldn't have been more poorly chosen lol

Sounds like he was looking for trouble or purposedly insulting the fans if you ask me lol

On the other hand, if we are indeed being "punished", it makes sense, doesn't it?

As Danny Bedrosian recently said about releasing more material from the P-Funk vault, though:

"The only difference is that Pfunks recorded RELEASED output is so heavy quantitatively and qualitatively, that the urge for more to come out is obviously understood but not always necessarily warranted."

Fair enough, this definitely applies to Prince nod

The only difference being George Clinton is alive and rightfully being picky about what he'll approve for release in his lifetime.

Such a ray of sunshine, aren't you...

Brilliant acoustic version, it ain't much but it's a start.

And in my opinion far from being his worse 80s song, how about Lemon Crush, Dance On, Horny Toad... now we're talking...

Bitch all you want people.

I LOOOOOVVVVVVE this song and version! Reverb and all, great version for me.

This makes my weekend. biggrin

Listened to it five times now. (Strange ending though), but this really really makes me happy after this enormous unexplainable gap of 4 months after the snippet?!

Why?

And why do most Prince lovers still hate this song ? I never understood the US-(UK?)-bitchin' about the cheesy feel of this song.

Though English is not my native language, is it about the lyrics? ...which at least always sound honest imh.

And if it's true that the comic-duo is pissed at Prince-hardcores, and wants to act up to it, they simply shooting their own foot.

Anyays.

The song "Free" never bores me. I don't mind it on 1999.

The opening line “Don't sleep ‘til the sunrise, listen to the falling rain” always reminds me of one of his most important themes; 'The Dawn’ (always a kind of woke Prince version avant la lettre to me). Also some sort of early reference to Purple Rain, although it probably wasn't meant that way.

Anyways, I like this new version very very much.

I can only hope they give us more of this - FAST!

-

What about the typo 'FR33'?

Kinda strange, no?

Does '33' mean something? Probably not.

They maybe think it works within Prince's spirit. No idea really.

Even if they're far from his best work, all of those songs are miles more fun to listen to than "Free".

I get your point, but who says music should be "fun" all the time ? There's beauty in melancholy/sadness too. You must skip all the ballads then..

I think it means the next release from the estate will on the 33rd of June. It's so obvious when you think about it.

Why wasn't this track included on 1999 SDE?
Why is it drenched in reverb? (a solo acoustic piece should sound more intimate, in my view)
Why is it the one chosen to be released now?
How many new fans will this release result in? (Zero.)
Why does the Estate still think it's OK not to disclose any info on a recording?
And why release a demo where Prince sings slightly out of tune (a rare occasion) at the end of the pre-release snippet? ("...what you got...")

I don't think he's singing out of tune. I think he's switching to a different key to give in a proper ending.

.
The word 'got' (in 'what you got') at 01:15 (of the entire song) is definitely out of key, too sharp.

I'm pretty sure that, like me, you're old enough to have used a calculator. I mean a physical one. Type "33". Turn the calculator upside down and voilà: "EE".

Still no idea why they're using leetspeak, though. Prince never used that particular substitution, IIRC.

Either way this is most likely from a rehearsal/practice session, not anything supposedly finished or made to be released (though Prince did release rehearsal takes occasionally in his lifetime).

.

I see no harm in releasing such material, mistakes and all, quite the contrary. Only thing that could maybe, again, have been useful is to give context (though it wouldn't have been written on Spotify and other streaming websites, but at least any casual fan could have googled the info and known it wasn't from some lo-fi project — unless of course it was, but then tell us either way lol ).

Plenty of services allow for liner notes. For instance, Nine Inch Nails albums on YouTube Music all have a text derived from Wikipedia.

.

.

If that can be there, then I'm pretty sure some competent person could have provided liner notes.

.

They've been sitting on this track for at least four months and all they've managed to do is create some shitty artwork. There are dozens, probably hundreds of bootlegs with tons of liner notes and photos etc. Funny how those guys manage to deliver a quality product but the highly paid guys ruining Prince's estate can't be arsed to put in any effort and then are arrogant about their limp performance.

.

Stop coming up with excuses and treat these scammy losers for the dingbats they are.

Everything you write will be interpreted in the least charitable way possible. It's part of the game, apparently. Sometimes I can convince myself that it's actually funny.
