Celebration 2023

Original thread as of 26 April:

This is embarassing. Really. First they have the gall to charge 4 figures for tickets, with even the standard ticket being stupid expensive, and that didn't come with any actual info about the event. Then they try to assuage people's fears by saying they'd announce a lineup on the 26th. Day's almost over and not a peep.

Between shit like this and all the estate holders publicly fighting on twitter, this is just fucking pathetic. What an amateur-hour disgrace.

(Thread title later amended following update announcement from Paisley Park of people slated to perform / appear - see link:

https://www.paisleypark.c...WzIPkrst9M

and information in thread below)

They'd find a way to mismanage a lemonade stand, for fuck's sake.

Really, their mismanagement is just laughable. It's hard to have any hope for the future of Prince's legacy with people like this running the ship

It looks like they fired Mitch McGuire at the wrong time and put the mess in the lap of a new person "who has to prove themselves".

I'd hate to be that new replacement.

Mitch was not fired. He resigned. There was no replacement at the time. Heard today that Londell moved into the physical office.

Not fired or "made his life so miserable he fired himself"?

I bet some intern at Paisley saw this thread last night at like 11pm and frantically texted the social media guy to remember before the 27th hits.

I don't have anything against the artists onboard but I can't say I'd ever spend anything close to $1200 to experience that lineup. Now it makes sense that Paisley Park tried to play on fans' FOMO and push them into buying tickets before the reveal tbh

If people have got a spare grand and are willing and able to go and maybe hear the odd 3 or 4 unreleased vault track once, then fair play.

For the vast majority of us living in the real world, though, we’ll just have to wait and hope there’s some kind of physical or digital release of Vault material at an affordable price, some time soon. Personally, I’m not hopeful for that and interest is waining.
There may or may not be something coming!

It’s crazy expensive. The most I’ve paid to see P there was $50.

Maybe if people refuse to go in protest they will pay attention to what we really want.

Chaka has said some messy things AD. I like her and am a fan but it surprises me she’s “appearing.”

That she heard Prince gave someone the herp when in reality it was Stevie Wonder.

You know the section on the 'Welcome 2 America' tour where fan switched off because it was simply becoming a caberet of background singers doing covers? The Celebration has become 3 nights of that.

In addition, the flight, the hotel (195 $ per night!), etc....

At last a new sticky! Haven’t seen one of these for a long time. Thank you l’ange bleu - hopefully this is a sign of great things to come. May be Neversin, Boris Fishpaw and Rodserling will start posting again.

I wouldn't be staying at the "recommended" hotels. I've got enough Radisson hotel points to stay at the Country Inn in Chanhassen for two weeks. You can stay there for for about !20 (and save by sharing rooms). But I'm not paying to go to this "celebration".

Notice that Chaka is only in a panel; her memories are so scrambled she keeps saying that she first met Prince at Electric Ladyland when he tricked her into thinking he was Sly. No, Chaka. THAT and accusing P of giving someone an STD?
I can't imagine sitting through a panel with her.

"There's more to come. We're still working on it," Londell McMillan of the Prince Legacy said late Wednesday. "Part of this is the experience to celebrate Prince, not always about a show. Sometimes it's about paying your respect to the greatest artist of all time."
