The hologram was only available on the cd version. All the original versions of the vinyl were the blue cover.

Meant to put “CD and cassette” - have edited my post.

My post was wrong too, I clean forgot the cassette version. wink

Been in touch with Jeff Gold who did the art direction for the Diamonds & Pearls album. He said, “it was cost that prevented us from using the hologram on the album cover, period. The CD was very expensive to do, and the album would have been prohibitive.”

Furthermore, I also got in touch with Crown Roll Leaf, whose Holografx division produced the embossed hologram on the CD, cassette and display stand. They got back to me to say, “We still have the masters for this hologram, so we can reproduce this image if needed...I am not sure who owns the rights to this hologram. The owner [would have to] authorize the use of this image, if we are to re-create it.”

Sounds like they’ve not been approached, so if an SDE does out come this year, I’m not expecting the hologram on the cover.
There may or may not be something coming!

🤣

I also asked Jeff Gold if Prince came to him with the idea to have a hologram or was that someone else’s idea. Jeff replied, “I showed him a cover I did for Suzanne Vega, Days of Open Hand, which was a limited edition, and he loved it and asked if he could have a hologram. I said maybe, and that turned into a yes!”

Cool in a way. Means the original release still has value.

But the sde would have its own design anyway like the others did..

Yes for SOTT, but 1999 was the original artwork albeit enhanced with foil (and silver background on the slipcase)

Maybe they will use the full color image that is circulating of the Blue release, but in metallic foil

I think that would look neat

I don't think it's limited at all. In fact I think the hologram was the only version available in certain territories at one point.

Thank you for that link, it passed me by and contains a great insight to the cover. Jeff was very kind and generous with his responses to me. He seems obviously proud of his work with Prince and looks back on that time with fondness.

"3 Chains O' Gold" was only (officially) released on VHS/LaserDisc. Same for the "Diamonds And Pearls" video collection.

Diamonds and pearls was officially released on DVD in 2006 I believe it is out of print now days but it can be found for sale on ebay

at the end of the 90s Diamonds and Pearls video collection was also released on VCD in a standard CD sized jewel case and Laser disc of course.

Yeah i was also online looking for it but can't seem to find it, but I remember it being for sale at our local computer store (Vobis) among the black CD rom with orange symbol version of INteractive and that was in 98 or so (or whenever Unreal Tournament GOTY was released because that's what I bought there instead or Deus Ex Goty)

Just thinking of this, Surely early April would be more fitting time and respect wise?

.

Looking back Welcome to America was announced April 8th and released July 30th so we could be looking at an announcement of the SDE imminently

Add the fact they have somewhat been leaked visually (remastered and deluxe on Ebay)

.

Are there any other posthumus releases that were announcent on April 21st?

The Originals was announced at Celebration at Paisley Park the week of April 21st, but not on the 21st.

Asking someone a question isn't inherently bothering them. Some people like to have conversations and discussions. They actually enjoy talking to people. Perhaps you don't. Which is fine. But don't project your preferences onto other people.

People are accusing you of being Bart. Are you? If not, then let me tell you about Bart. He had this irrational, indefensible belief that the only legitimate way to aquire information was by reading it on a static page. He was vehemently opposed to interactive learning. He could never articulate why. He simply thought it was inherently true that gaining information through dialogue was somehow dumb or lazy. Which of course makes no sense. That's why comments like yours, expressing opposition to interactive learning, make people suspect you're Bart.
