do we know of any prince outtakes? the only one I can think of is the early version of "However Much U Want"

but beyond that, no outtakes come to mind. I think the only things he took off it were the segues to
make room for "I wanna Melt With U" which was the last song written for the album.

are any alternate versions known that have different songs? and what kind of material might fall in
the prince era as far as session/related tracks? the miles davis instrumental? I'll do Anything songs?

it will be very interesting to know what he recorded between the last material for prince and the first
songs that ended up in Glam Slam Ulysses. I love the shift his music made at that point so very, very
interested in anything that could bridge that gap.

I guess "race" falls in there somewhere, although that was recorded closer to D&P iirc.

yes yes, starting to nerd out and getting a bit excited now smile

Keep in mind that there's an infinite possibility of things like alt takes that we have no idea about as the previous SDEs show.

There is also a much stronger argument for material we don't know about as the leaks had already begun to be filled by this point. And to great effect. The Gold sessions being an outlier because Prince was likely responsible for a lot of them.

There's plenty stuff from this era that we know about and is comparable in number to 1999 or Parade eras.

Assuming the Originals concept was not considered much of a success, there is certainly a possibility that his versions of songs will appear. I'd love that for the Martika and Eric Leeds stuff alone. Nevermind anything he possibly did with Rosie - which I'll take more of in any form.

I think the data of this era gets colored by people's mixed feelings about it that gives the impression there isn't a ton of material. But really there is - did When The Lights Go Down leak ahead of it's release? Don't think so. Don't think I ever saw that title anywhere until it's release. There is a very beefy chance there's more we don't know about.

work that fat is genuinely a great song and groove and needs to be part of the set. yes i know it's martika's kitchen but the song works in the same sparse way bob george works.

not comparing work that fat to bob george but it's the same general vibe

ooh good call, on "when the lights go down" ! yes, those are the kind of tracks that none of us knew about until they were released. so a lot of stuff probably isn't known about.

and I would love love love decent quality takes of the martika songs and stuff he worked on with rosie nod

Not to mention the possibility of some of these songs being much older than we thought (like how "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" was originally from 1979). It would be wild to find out "Blue Light" was originally a demo from 1981 or "Love 2 The 9s" shared the melody and some lyrics with an outtake from For You.

Probably not but we've been surprised before!

Yes, there's many possible ways it could branch off. There's unreleased mixes of MNIP, Sexy MF, The Max, The Continental and probably others. 1000 Hugs & Kisses was recorded with Rosie, could that be on the D&P set...or Nona's version
.
Tony did write his own raps but that isn't stopping the inclusion of Call The Law and Things Have Gotta Change on the D&P set, so who knows if they'll include some GN stuff. Be funny just to piss people off on here

Will they put out Work That Fat and Schoolyard or will they be scared to offend with the way the world is now..

Considering Schoolyard was the original title track for the 1991 album, I would say it is impossible to exclude it and that would be a much bigger insult than the two missing songs on 1999's SDE.

Edit to add that Schoolyard was also updated in 1992 with sax and a longer mix. That would be the version to include tbh but it's from December 1992 so past the typical cut off.

Verse from Schoolyard. Discuss?

Now boys & girls
4 the graphic part
Close ur ears
If U ain't got a nasty heart
The schoolyard... (Here we go)
Now take a glove
Fill it with hot baby lotion
& slip it on (Well)
Pull it tight
That's what Carrie was like
1 stroke & was gone
Gone was - it's true
The schoolyard...

Schoolyard will be on the set unedited. I said it will be on the set unedited back in October 2020 when the D&P rumors first started and I'm saying it will be on the set in March 2023 now that we have confirmation something's happening. No need to scaremonger, literally the only reason Extraloveable and Lust U Always weren't included was because they used the word rape in the context they did, it's as simple as that. As graphic and IMO kind of weird Schoolyard is, it's too nuanced (read: not nuanced at all but it takes an actual reading of the lyrics to really grasp what's going on) for me to be worried at all, at all, about them trying to cut it.

Thank you.

i've never really understood this lyric. is he saying that she jerked him off and
her hands were so soft and warm that they felt like a glove filled with hot baby
lotion (or at least that such a thing would come close to what her hand felt like).

or is he saying that he actually had penetrative sex with her and her scarlet puss puss
felt like that glove?

i'm more inclined to go with the first one and that wouldn't be anything for even
the snowflakes to raise an eyebrow about, would it? getting a handy j, i mean come
on, big deal.

the bigger turd in the pipeline is that in this story the boy is 16, the girl is 14 - yet
in europe, still not a very big deal if both consent.

yet, the turd gets even bigger as we learn that carrie gets high on ace's pot, while
p just wants to dance and by the time she's seeing double they both get in trouble
-i'm guessing he is still sober at this point.

so that's where we get into some hot (turd infested) water.

it will be an interesting litmus test for the estate, regarding risque material i guess,
in this day and age.

i would have laughed at all of this and said 'no one will get worked up over this', yet
we now live in a world where -indeed like dodger said- roald dahl books are being
adjusted for language and where voices keep getting louder and louder that we really
should not be reading Dostoyevski anymore - since russia invading ukrain etc.

it won't be long before we have book burnings again. which is the day i will finally go
out onto the streets and start smashing some heads in.

but i do hope that before then we'll at least get another 2 dozen genre bending, line
crossing, toe stepping, dick stubbing prince tunes with absolute filthy lyrics.

edit: now i'm wondering if anyone on the org ever filled a glove with hot baby lotion
and slipped it on (either their hand or their big fat cawk). some of you freaks have,
I'm sure. I would have myself, but I'm allergic to latex sad

Dahl or Prince, big business should not be basing decision around what a handful of weirdos on Twitter will get upset about when 95 percent of the real world doesn't give a shit and won't even be bothered to listen in the first place.

And I'm confident they won't, so Schoolyard will indeed be on this set and it wasn't even a question in my mind for a second. Now this doesn't address the fact that Schoolyard itself is just an awful song, but to each his own.

They wouldn't have. Anyone thinking that Extraloveable or Lust (Me) Always would've moved the needle in any way is delusional and just looking for stuff to get angry about. Would've been maybe a sensationalist article or two, maybe an unflattering mention in a review, maybe a few days of a couple hundred twitter people posting snide things, maybe one or two #CancelPrince tweets, and then it would've been over and 99.999999 percent of the music listening public would've moved on.

Unfortunately I guess that was enough of a thought to scare them from even trying to put it out!

Man, they are bad, and i mean NOT GOOD AT ALL.

Prince's songwriting was at an absolute dissapointing level for me.

No wonder he did not release them.

C'mon. I have always thought 'I Wonder' is better than most of the D&P album. It's a beautiful little song and sounds much more Prince-ly than most of the songs that made the release. I assumed it was almost universally beloved. 'Open Book' is great too, in spite of having a few clunky rhymes and teetering dangerously close (but not quite) to being too sentimental. And technically not a D&P outtake but from the same era, Prince's original version of 'I Hear Your Voice' is haunting. One my favourite unreleased Prince recordings.

Of course, it's the D&P era, there's going to be some chaff left in the wheat.

He told Neal Karlen that Schoolyard was about his "first time getting some", so I guess it's about penetrative sex.

work that fat is genuinely a great song and groove and needs to be part of the set. yes i know it's martika's kitchen but the song works in the same sparse way bob george works.

not comparing work that fat to bob george but it's the same general vibe

That song next to Bob George is fantastic !!!!!
