‘The Conversation’ article ‘the artist formerly known as Camille’

https://theconversation.c...out-189486

Discussion about the Camille album, including Prince’s [supposed] androgyny. Also claims it is expected to be released later in 2023 [without anything to back it up].
There may or may not be something coming!

Neversin was pretty adamant that Camille was 100% intended to be male and the whole androgynous thing was made up:

Here's my own take on the Camille album, as a fan who's a trans person and hugely influenced by Prince in how I present and am. There's also a video discussion with Chris Johnson of the Purple Knights Podcast, which came about after I helped to break the news of Third Man aquiring their copy: https://vickyxleigh.mediu...e4f44b624e

The leaks because someone stole a laptop with tons of MJ stuff on it.

People will believe whatever they want, regardless of what anyone close to the source claims. But in this case, we don't even need to ponder it, Prince himself explicitly stated Camille was male in a letter he wrote to Tom Moon, after Tom wrote a critical review of the Come album for Rolling Stone.

The letter was sold at auction, so would appear genuine and the auction can be seen here https://www.icollector.co..._i29054576

But even with Neversin telling us and Prince himself stating it, nothing will change. People will still belive whatever they want.

We interviewed Tom on our podcast and he said he never received this letter. Not saying it’s not a letter from Prince to Tom, but Tom Moon never possessed this letter.

Given Prince himself also described Camille as a psychedlic pimplike man with only gorgeuos women around him to serve him while he was chasing a unreachable woman (this came from a page Prince wrote on what is believed to be a draft on a play/movie about Camille that Neversin shared to some on a private Discord some years ago) and the fact that some bitter british music reviewer, who never listened to SOTT back in 87, decided Prince was singing to a guy when he read the title If I Was Your Girlfriend on the album without listening to the song and then made up that Camille was a female and everyone ran with that made up BS.

Intersting, thanks for the insight. The auction description says, "Prince's response to Tom Moon's critical review of his album Come", so isn't claiming that it was sent to Tom.

Might be that it was an open letter, like that one he wrote to Madonna, although this one does exist in physical form at least. Would be interesting to know more about the origin of this letter and how it came to be in the hands of the auctioneers.

Says on the auction listing, “From the collection of Prince's assistant Therese Stoulil…”

DR FUNKENBERRY:
In regards to that "Camille" article which gets MANY things wrong, it is NOT slated for release this year or the immediate future. Long story short. All songs but one fall under Sony. The other song is still under WB. So unless a licensing deal is made, it is not happening. 💜
Groups that know better shouldn't allow/post the misinformation to spread through the community. Do better.

So he must be talking about Good Love because it's on that soundtrack. Which would explain why Prince released a different edit of it on CB.

So again the reason we won't get anything we want is record companies being moneyminding assholes. Next to the Estate themself of course.

That should have reverted back already.

However, the soundtracks and songs he gave to soundtrack albums are under different deals.

Jackass White really dropped the ball on this one. Somebody needs to storm the stage and tear up his photo during his inevitable Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Fight the real enemy.

How so?
He's the one who wants to release it, it's as usual the record companies and (probably) the Estate again tinking about money istead of Prince's legacy.

lol, everyone getting so defensive over their hero. My apologies for daring to speak out of turn toward the mighty and benevolent White man. The superior White king. White is right?

C'mon
, Brother Jacques was clearly a little spazzy on the draw with his Camille declarations, c'mon. Maybe you seem him as a pie-in-the-sky idealist and fellow fanboy thwarted by the whims of the Estate's evil empire, alls I see is more empty promises, another false prophet, yet another demagogue in the extended post-Purplepocalypic cinematic multiverse of madness Groundhog Day we call this date in org history.

clapping

I've asked elsewhere, I'll ask again here: what is the source for the "information" that Camille will be released this year?

Looking way back through Jack White's IG, I couldn't find any mention of this project.
