I've now heard Glasscutter and United States Of Division. Haven't gotten around to any of the other outtakes mentioned in this thread. But of the two songs I have heard... I can see why they were outtakes. Glasscutter is ok, I suppose. It's grown on me a bit. But United States Of Division? Woof!

dodododododdodo--dodododododdo--dodododododo--dooooo

Virtual B-sides, yo. "United States of Division" was the virtual B-Side to "Cinnamon Girl" and "Glasscutter" was a Cyber-Single, actually. These tracks were released officially in his lifetime, in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

I doubt they were outtakes to any Musicology/3121 session anyway, they're nothing like those records. Even his 80s B-Sides were usually stuff recorded around the albums rather than being outtakes from the album sessions themselves.

Your post inadvertently put me on to a "new" Prince song. I have never heard of the phrase "Cyber-Single" but I assumed it to be an internet only single. But just in case I was wrong, and to prevent me looking like an idiot in future, I googled it and came across a Prince song called Cybersingle. I'm sure you all know it but I never heard of it before and probably never would have were it not for your post. So thank you razz .

Don't worry. Cyber-Single isn't actually a thing. Nor, as you discovered, the title of the song. But Hissing Sunflower has a way with words.

Cybersingle is the epitomy of a brilliant/terrible song. It's corny and cheesy and overblown and yet, somehow, it just kinda works.

.

Have you heard One Song?

- True. The lyrcs had some cheesy moments and the production could have been more organic. But Prince does some cool guitar and drums there. It´s one of the ´for fans only´ songs.

One Song (without the 1999/Y2K intro) is a very beautiful song. Not album worthy, but I could see it on a charity compilation or something like that.

Cybersingle . . . IIRC a snippet of this was the "commercial" for the NPGMC. Not the best song, but it has some cool elements.

lolwut? If Prince uses it as terminology as he did in "Cybersingle", then yes, it's actually a thing when discussed in the context of Prince: his music and more. Prince sets the paradigms on Prince, not your Baby Huey semantics.

Those Baby Huey semantics are the difference between calling the building a Public Library or a Pubic Library. An Office Manager or an Office Manger.

"Cyber-Single" isn't a thing.

And "Cybersingle" is only a song by Prince. Nobody called anything a Cybersingle outside of that. Cornball.

THe quality didn't help at all. The 4ish minutes of talking beforehand was a bit of a headscratcher.

yeah, it was good that it later circulated (or was it for sale in the npgmusicclub store, even?) as
just the song.

although I have to admit that sometimes I would listen to the whole thing just because I like the
sound of his voice, talking smile

Unfortunately, it's never been sold and made officially available separately (although the original low bitrate video was a downliad on NPGMC).

I ripped the audio from the video and then edited the spoken word intro off of it.

yes! that is another track that suffers from only being out there in rather low quality.

listening with nice headphones you can hear some more stuff going on, deep in the mix,
but the file is just too bad. I wish we could have bought that in decent quality.

I never thought this was bad quality.

Especially for a bootleg.

A bit loud, yes.

Maybe my speakers/headphones are older than the leak?

The Ahdio Shows were 128kbps. Not great, not awful.

At the time, that meant downloading almost impossibly large files. 60MB at home would take at least 8 hours, and a drop in connection meant starting from scratch. It also meant the only landline in my shared university accomodation was out of action.

Uni had super fast (for the time) internet, so it would take about 45 mins. Getting the file off the uni computer was a problem - solved by buying a zip drive.

How times change!

I remember those days all too well lol the hope, the frustration, the endless waiting.

the endless lost connections, having to start over again falloff

There were also problems with the official site though since I remember downloading
TRC which was also 1 big file when they released it. It took me forever and just would
not load fully.

Then someone on here who had managed to download it, put it in a zipfile or such and
shared the link.

That made my day. Finally I was able to listen to the new album woot!

I'm convinced that some of the hate people feel toward that album to this day is due to
the psychological trauma from downloading such a huge file and it just not happening.

The first time I heard the album was at Paisley Park, and the feeling amongst was very mixed (primarily the narrator's voice and some lyrics were the issues).
