...where? Before or after the "would have"? I'm saying he basically did. I'm saying your premise is not just a fantasy as you depict it in your post. And that bossa Nova song is no more or less Babyface than other Zzz stuff like "Walk In Sand" and "Better With Time" and other snoozefests.

The premise isn't fantasy. It's reality. Prince fans (you) perceive his later songs as L.A. Reid/Babyface/Teddy songs anyway (again, you), to the extent where they're now on a soapbox arguing that they are in fact L.A. Reid/Babyface/Teddy songs (once more, you) like I wasn't the one who brought the concept to the table. I literally agreed with you to begin the conversation.

And Prince fans like you discard Bria and similar material as forgettable/phoned/in.... probably dislike the instrumental stuff too, sooo, he could have just saved time hiring L.A./Babyface/Teddy... like my post stated.. and you agree.

Shit is elevator music. Even the dancier tracks are comedically benign. It's kind of a shame he tacked this record onto LF because both LF and MPLSound blow Elixer outta the water. Now, had he done his own vocals and not specifically built the songs to be sung by a thin voiced burly woman, perhaps songs like the title track (easily the best song on the offering) maybe he woulda been onto something.

Her music is not gonna set anyone's soul ablaze, but i dig the sultry, laid back aesthetic to her songs...i can see why you call it "elevator music", but sometimes i dig that kinda vibe...especially from a female vocalist that has the voice to pull it off...she's even better looking than i thought she was, so theres that too 😎

Since you decided to waltz up in here and be a passive aggressive bitch, let me get you together one time. Here is your post:

"The whole Elixer album is fire. Majority of Prince fans have such disdain for any time he didn't sing on the track. Sometimes it's like man he wasted so much energy on instruments and production when 80% of the fanbase would've rode with him just as hard if he was a singer-for-hire singing Babyface & L.A. Reid songs. He could've saved so much time just phoning up Teddy Riley, showing up to a 4-hour vocal session and calling it a career as far as some are concerned."

You are presenting this as if it didn't happen. That is how "when/if" works. Me saying that he basically DID DO this is different than "when/if" in a scenario that didn't actually fucking happen (spoiler; Prince didn't do session vocals for anyone).

Me saying he had a penchant for bland RnB is me AGREEING with only that part of your FANTASY. Clear?

MPLSound? So phoned in he even brought back the Linn drum... or at least the Linn drum sample kit in the 2004 cracked Kazaa download of Fruity Loops.

Call "Everytime" boring, but it's at least something new. His 80s throwback Prince karaoke bonus disc is both boring and cringeworthy retreads. You're also part of another subsection of the fanbase that would've been so hype if he released Purple Rain II in '85 and Purple Rain III in '86, aren't you?

We could've been on Purple Rain LVI by now like the Super Bowl if he didn't fumble the bag. Oh, what could have been.

You want to do the OCD internal post point-by-point break down now, when you normally throw tantrums about posts that exceed half a paragraph?

Nuh uh Lucy, I don't fall for that football trick anymore. And while your creepy obsessive breakdowns of my arbitrary commentary you claimed to abhor in the first place are fantastic insights into your psyche, you're boring the org with these page-spanning preoccupations.

Defend that shitty MPLSound record. Discuss Prince, his music, etc. here

I can't imagine there were too many. LotusFlower and MPLSound aren't heavy with the new love songs and several of them are certainly about other women. 20TEN is possible. Maybe he wrote Walk In Sand and Sea of Everything about her. I'm more convinced that they weren't actually very close and she was more of a muse.

No, she was his girlfriend. They were hot -- until:

she says she wanted someone who really lived by the precepts of JW

he never said anything of course but I think he moved on to other girls

Then it is said she went onto some websites saying she was someone else and stanning for herself. At that point Prince understands and is kind but gets turned off.

I wish she would elaborate on that. Prince was honest with the fact that he wasn't perfect and what mattered was that he tried (I think it was either the Ebony or the Rolling Stone interview).

I never heard that Bria didn't care for it but I did hear that the JWs didn't and that this led to it being removed from consideration for an album (probably LF). The studio version that was played on the radio and his live performance were both fire and the best damn song he had come out with in a LONG time.

So the JW liked Mellow and didn't care for Turn me loose ?

Are any Prince sings about Manuela?

Come on now. Nearly the entirety of Rainbow Children is about her and her induction into the cult.

I know that Manuela helped (along with Larry) to lure him into the cult. And I know that Rainbow Children is generally about his joiing the cult. But outside of She Loves Me for 4 Me, where is Manueal's role, or simply Prince's affection for her, mentioned in Rainbdow Children?

You may be correct. I know the tone of the written word can sometimes come across wrong, so to be clear, I'm not arguing with you. I'm genuinely interested if you can't point to specific examples. I love that album and listen to it all the time, but I'm almost exclusively listening to its music. I don't pay attention to its lyrics. I let them pass over me. So I'm totally willing to believe it's full of Manuela references that I've just not picked up on.

Well, let's see. Songs on TRC directed at or about a woman:

1+1+1 is 3
Mellow
The Sensual Everafter
She Loves Me 4 Me

Songs that reference his new girlie or the happiness he found getting away from the outcasts:

Rainbow Children
Everlasting Now
Everywhere

I think the album is pretty clear - he left his last marriage and some friends and found happiness in JW and his new relationship. The album isn't solely about JW beliefs, rather telling his story of how he became a witness which also includes his new relationship.

Agree with this after listening to it a few times this week on my commute to work.

.

I know some say it's elevator music, it's Sade-lite, her voice isn't great etc but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Of course she's no Rosie but her voice suits this laid back vibe.

.

Really liking Something U Already Know. The line 'your favourite song is Home' (the previous track on the album) is my kind of clever nerdy shit

Said no one. Seems there's a reason it's not part of the streaming package on Prince's discography. It sux.

Is it on streaming anywhere? I honestly don't know.

I respectfully disagree then smile I like this album, there are a few very good songs on there
that would have been little gems on any late era prince album (another boy, here I come,
all this love and a few more).

The rest of treads pretty much the same ground as anything musicology-3121-planetearth
so I always fail to understand why people say they don't even want to listen to it once eek

Still, for those who did listen to the whole thing and just hated it or did not like it at all, that
is of course perfectly fine, everyone has different things they like.

But I wonder if it's because it's bria singing that this album resonates so little?

I mean, if we put prince vocals on all these songs, as an album it's better than MPLSound,
which was basically 2 very cool songs, surrounded by lots of fluff and padding.

Bria's album is better than the Vanity 6 and Appolonia 6 stuff that's for sure.

I hope Prince recorded his versions of the songs.

I'm not talking about the music itself, just the voices. I love Vanity but this girl could not sing to save her life.
