I must be in the minority. I'd rank Come as a bottom 5 album.

Perhaps if the Glam Slam Ulysses version of the title track was used instead I'd like it better. The album version of Come is one of my least favorite songs by any artists. Its super derivative. It sounds like it could have come from any middle-of-the-road '90s R&B artist. In contrast, the GSU version is like nothing else on the radio. It is uniquely Prince.

But to get back on topic, I do like Phermone. Not a favorite, but a decent song.

I can take or leave the lyrics. Nothing's shocking anymore. I just think it's a jam.

A lot of his 90's stuff would be phenomenal if he hadn't dropped the ball on the production quality.

i think this is half true.

but even if the production was more interesting for a song like endorphine machine, it still couldnt help the fact that the song sounds quite hastily put together after he got that riff down.

but yeah, less typical production would have made his 90s stuff a bit more interesting, for sure. he seemed more interested in showing he was a good musician in the 90s, and making more sonically/musically conservative choices more often than not. guess it was harder to take risks when youre not a certified hitmaker anymore? or when you care more about acceptance/success etc.

Pheremone. Oh man. THIS is one of his masterpieces. In his top 5 songs of the 90's for sure. The lyrics are as complex as a short story. Some of his best. But it's the arrangement that makes it genius. That spare sounding drum and octave it oscillates between. I don't think even in the 80's he had a song that was anything like this one, so hard hitting, liquid, sexy, and scary. "I want to save her / I want to watch." What a creepy but brilliant line -- straight out of David Lynch. It's a song I've come to appreciate more and more.

Yeah, those drums! Only trouble is the long intro before the action beings, but it's easily fixed with a simple edit.

Yep...that album seems to get better with time...the songs have aged very well...one of the all time great album covers too

Yes it's one of the best Prince albums of the 90s and I prefer it to TGE. I don't think TGE has aged that well like Come. I like Pheremone, but it's not one of the the strongest tracks on Come.

Always loved this song. Blew me away when I first heard it. I loved the album when it first came out. A funky short album. The media at the time just rubbished it! I thought why can’t they hear what I’m hearing!

One of the interesting moments is the beginning when he spells out "L-O-V-E."

It hearkens back to "F-I-N-A-L-L-Y" in "G-Spot."

The silhouette dancing is very reminiscent of Michael Jackson in "In The Closet."

People coming out of the ceiling reminds us of the video for "If" by Janet Jackson from her 1993 janet. album.

The storyline in the lyrics pulls a bit from "Come," with the sexual depravity and humiliation fetishes.

The whole of the Beautiful experience video is like some weird bizarro universe circus side show. The BDSM cyclops in "Interactive," the Medusa visuals in "Pheromone," the different round platforms in the concert itself make us think of the same types of platforms used in ciruses for elephants and tigers.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Exactly. This applies to a lot of the music I listen to, actually. Not that I'm embarrassed by it, but I know that "most people" are on a completely different planet when it comes to music.

.

I remember a time when I was listening to some Herbie Hancock at work and a colleague of mine asked: "What is this crap?" (or something to that effect) And it was one of the funkiest versions of "Spider" I've ever heard (the version with Wah-Wah Watson, Bill Evans, Darryl Jones, etc. from 1989). Come on.

.

My brother, who is also a Miles Davis fan, was blasting "Agharta" in his room with his windows open, once when he was a teenager (that was a long time ago, in the late 80s). A friend of his came near his (open) window and, again, thought my brother was completely crazy to listen to that kind of music. lol

Both you and your brother have impeccable taste! I was listening to Agharta on my headphones today funnily enough. I've just ordered a JBL bluetooth speaker to listen to on my travels, so the inhabitants of small town where I live should be really pleased. I'm looking forward to sharing Naked City/John Zorn's Torture Garden with everyone at my local coffee shop. lol

I must admit I'm not familiar with John Zorn. Do you have any suggestions (let's say 2-3 recordings)?

Most things are on youtube these days, just search, "Prince Come"

If you like the album version, you might not like the other versions, they are very, very different. Personally, I always loved them having first heard the song on The Beautiful Experience video, before the album was released, the album version was quite jarring.

For me, The album version is my least favourtite version by a long way.

1994, 8th grade, somewhere in north east Indiana….. I must’ve rented Super Street Fighter 2 for the weekend or something while getting into this song cuz for whatever reason I always associated it with that game. Posters all over the wall. Where posters weren’t covering I clipped stuff from Electronic Gaming Monthly. Oh & my poor parents having to hear the next song Loose blaring out from my room 🤦‍♂️. Can you believe Pheromone had a video?

Lol don’t judge wasn’t any of u 14 when that came out?
