Songs that always sound great in any rendition What are the songs that always sounded amazing, no matter what version you are listening to? Whether it’s a remix, alternate version, demo or any live version? For me, the song that immediately comes to mind is Strange Relationship. The official SOTT album version is classic. The ‘85 version kicks ass. The Shep Pettibone remix is a treat. And all the live versions and rehearsals sounded good. Even when it’s just Prince on the piano, it’s still funky

Love both the studio and acoustic version of "Love," especially considering the significant difference between the two.

And agree that 'Strange Relationship' is a good pick.

The first that comes to mind for me is "Diamonds and Pearls". That song is a knockout in any rendition in any universe.

OMG!! I can't believe I forgot to include "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man"! I love the rendition from the SOTT film/SDE. It has to be my most favorite live rendition of Prince's ever. The horns interpolation (taken from "Rockhard In A Funky Place") gives me life.

Besides it being one of my favorite songs in existence, I Would Die 4 U has consistenly sounded great in any way. The album, extended and live version of the Purple Rain era are exquisite and full of energy and emotion. Although he retired it for many years, I believe it showed back up for the JOTY tour and he nailed it there - the Musicology tour rendition is fresh and I love the added horn arrangement. - His most tender arrangement has to be on the P&M tour. His vocals in both Atlanta shows for that specifically are tear inducing.

Miko and Wendy on rhythm guitar.. Lisa on keyboards ...Sheila E's tireless percussion wizardry ...Eddie M's amazing sax soloing...and Prince leading/directing it all...it never gets old.
