As a reminder:
On 9 February 2017, Universal also announced that it had taken over the record management of the NPG Records label, a total of 25 albums, as well as the future exploitation of the Vault's content. At the same time, Warner Bros announced the release of the Purple Rain Deluxe album for 9 June 2017. Indeed, it seems that a deal has been struck between the two companies: Warner Bros will release the remaster of the classic Purple Rain along with two other unreleased constituent albums, and two concerts released for the first time on DVD. Once this stage is over, Universal will manage and subsequently release the recordings from the Paisley Park vault.
In July 2017, however, it was announced that the contract with Universal, worth $31 million, had been cancelled due to a technicality. While McMillan claimed that the rights were free, some of them are actually held by Warner Bros. So there can't be two competing contracts at the same time. Universal threw in the towel.
A long renegotiation took place after McMillan and Charles Kopperman were ousted. In the end, Sony Music's Legacy label won the contract for the post-Warner years, 1995 and beyond. The deal was made public in June 2018 and has since led to the online release of the entire catalogue, and a campaign of album reissues. Sony Music will pick up the pre-1995 Warner catalogue from 2021 for distribution in Europe.

What are you talking about? The RSD reissue has the exact same version of it as the original

No, the version of Gold Experience is some kind of a terrible remix of the original version that was released on single in 1994.
Everybody knows that.

Nothing ive seen has any clarity on what the new plan is or how this new estate will be different. So until i hesr anything, it seems pointless speculating. Absolutely no real details. Just hype that now the family will do things right. As if the family know this business! Ive not got My hopes up.

The facts > the Sharon/Mc Millan team opposed almost every release made by the Comerica era Estate (Comerica and the judge had the final say otherwise the SOTT and 1999 SDE releases would not have been possible), they were opposed to moving the Vault for protection and digitisation to Los Angeles, apparently the first decision to be taken by the new Estate would be to repatriate the Vault to PP where it would appear that no measures to secure the Vault (unsafe at the time of the move in 2017) had been taken; they did not appreciate the work proposed by Howe and Troy Carter and other quality contributors = Bernie Grundman for the remastering, you have today some elements of answers, we will not talk about the fiasco of the first huge contract signed at the beginning with Univesal and cancelled for hidden contractual defects in 2017 led by the hand of Master Mc Millan , so yes we already have a not very glorious state of mind and errors well present on the part of the interests since the beginning defended by Mc Millan/Sharon etc, my expectations for the future are very low and pessimistic, I hope to be wrong and to have all wrong ?

I think you're right, sadly.

What about that Netflix deal that was contracted by the previous estate?
That rumoured deal, that would prevent the previous estate to release something new, and the Syracuse live instead.

It is rumoured they have hace access to the vault, obviously working closely with Michael Howe if it's true. I don't think it is, but let's pretend Netflix really give the estate money to do a Prince documentary.

Now that the vault is going back to PP, that the the previous staff working on it for the last 5 years are assumely fired, we may assume that documentary serie will be delayed.
Knowing it has not even a rumoured date, like, "sometimes in 2023", that that deal wasn't even publicly announced, we may even assume that it won't happen before 2024, the magical year celebrating the 40 years of Purple Rain.

So, that would mean too that no audio-video project would be released before that.

If Netflix really submitted a contract to the previous estate, then it obliges the current one too logically. Except if they pay big money to escape from that contract.

I would think, by now, that the Netflix documentary is essentially completed. It was scheduled for 2023 and it's too late to cancel it
Remember, Dave Chapelle got $24 million for his last Netflix special. How much do you think Comerica negotiated with Netflix for a ten-part documentary?

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

The reissue has the original album version. The original single version, the first version we heard is different.

You made it sound as if the reissue was using a different version than the original album issue.

No. I made it sound like they could/should have included the original version of one of the biggest success of Prince in this album related to it, in the CD version.

That would have appealed to a larger audience.

The current estate just went to publicly criticize the previous estate with their their releases. Amd what did they release mainly? SDE. So I highly doubt the current estate to release an SDE, moreover conceived by the previous estate! These people have logically all been fired, amd the tapes are moved again to some other place. What's more, they criticized the previous estate for the music they released, but didn't say neither what they are now proposing. So, IMHO, it's obvious nothing is prepared to be released or even announced this year. Worst : Sony don't seem to be eager to release new batches of reissues ( and this has nothing to do with vinyl crisis) ; and WB don't seem to be willing to use their soundtracks to make SDEs.

HALF of the estate (PRN Legacy LLC, comprised of Sharon, Norrine and the late John Jr's heirs) are complaining.

Watch for OAT Holdings LLC (Omarr, Alfred, Tyka) to be a moderating force to keep those old people from messing things up.

As for WB: my own prediction is we'll see a Purple Rain 40th Anniversary SDE in 2024.

Like selling out for example?
