From what I understand this was raw footage and was not actually broadcast

You think his responses were "spot on" and "pretty well involved"? First he says teachers need an education too. What the hell does that even mean? Then he says they deserve a raise, which is fair enough, but there's nothing special about that. It's just repeating a super generic and obvious statement he heard grown-ups say.

To be clear, I understand that he was only 11 and I'm not faulting his responses. Anyone who critisize his responses is a fool. But at the same time, that doesn't mean we have to make them out to be great responses and give them more credit than they deserve. He was just a young kid *understandably* parroting what he'd heard grown-ups say. That doesn't deserve scorn, but it also doesn't deserve praise. It just is what it is.

Oh brother, there always has to be 1 in the bunch.

Can't you just be happy that we got to see an unseen video of Prince at approx 11 years old?

I ask why? Why, is there criticism of something so simple?

And yet you are faulting his responses, and that must mean you are a fool...by your own words.

Why is it so fucking hard to enjoy something, without picking it the fuck apart?

This is why this place has gone fucking down hill and everybody fucking left it. Damn!

I fucking HATE the folks on here..an absolute cess pit. The org is a useful idiot for the occasional bit of news BUT totally irrelevant when compared to the quality content on twitter. The people are what makes a community & this is so far removed.

Would love to see more concerning the teachers strike subject of that paril day, 1970.

Little Prince was so spot on in his replies and pretty well involved for a 11yo it seems.

As a time document, it can be an addition to understand more where he comes from.

At least imho.

Cause he seems such a normal and very responsive happy kid.

The complete opposite of the introverted silent superstar (and sort of a tiran in the studio) he bacame in his adult life...

What a contrast.

(Though this are just mere seconds of film, i know, difficult to analize of course.)

Sure, some on here can be a bit tetchy, but are you seriously suggesting that people are generally nicer on twitter? It's the internet, wherever you go you'll get nasty and nice. Calling this place 'an absolute cess pit', is a bit unfair on all the friendly folks here. In this very thread there's way more people being nice about the news report than those who aren't. Not really worth getting worked up about the minority IMO.

Would have been great if they found that footage a few years ago, when Prince was alive.
Since it was never broadcast, maybe that interview was completely out of his mind.
That could have inspired him a song, for sure.

Also full circle to know that the very last unreleased motion film of him is, in fact, the first one he ever did.

And where is that clear, exactly? Gosh, it's so unusual for an 11 year old, in 1970, to be curious about a film crew at a school....

...said no one, ever.

And why is it strange that he in a fully incomplete "memoir," that he didn't mention this moment? Clearly, it wasn't a stand out for him, or he simply never got to it.

WCCO is milking this to death but there's one clip where you see Prince was working hard to get into camera range -- just not jumping up and down.
ALSO, if you watch the clip where he starts talking, you hear a voice (female?) in the background say "that's Skippy".

No, but I did an interview in the local newspaper when I was 11 too. It was published, I was even photographed.

And you know what really gives him away? After he says "YUP" and starts to speak again, he shifts his chin and jaw side to side. He did that all the time. Many do, but it was a tell for me that it was him. Not that it clearly looked like him. But it's so great to see so many of his mannerisms there at age eleven.

For me, it was the eyes and smirk that I instantly recognized as Prince's.

I saw a little mischief twinkle in his eye too, as he looked at his friends smile heart

I think it's just the way he, as a little boy growing up in the city, communicated with his male peers.

Being small too, he probably had to have a little fight in him.

This. He was a healthy, active kid.

As for some of what we saw later... someone I know who knew Prince around age 20 and thereabouts told me, "He was very smart." When I tried to say more about him she repeated, "He was very smart."

Since no one else knows how to provide proof of anything ever, here's a Twitter thread (clearly by one of those "high profile twitter accounts," (even a verified account), where Andrewa Swensson talks about Prince's mother, Mattie Shaw Baker, career and life in the Minneapolis Public School (MPS) system.

I think he remembered it but he just assumed it was long lost as it was never on tv (as far as he knew). To him it may not be very intrestng. I was on the news 4 or 5 times... in the news papers 3 or 4 times. In magasines many times (My father wrote for several fishing publcations so my siblings and I and other family members were often in the photos that were part of the artical.) Oh in the background of a tv show... and I have no intrest in seeing any of them... who cares?

This snippet of of Prince was never broadcast; it remained as raw footage until it was retrieved from the WCCP vault a few weeks ago.

So without it beng broadcast, there's nothing to remember..

I would have never identified that as Prince.

There's a quick moment where he gives a devilish grin, the way his eyes move and refocus that was all Prince though.

Exactly those comments.

-

I know that these local journalitic reports often are really short for TV news, but the subject is interesting as a time frame for North Minneapolis where he grew up.

Would love to see more of that.

Maybe there's even more (not of Prince of course) in the WCCO archives.

-

TrivialPersuit said ''it's so unusual for an 11 year old, in 1970, to be curious about a film crew at a school'', and that too should make any kid nervous at the time.

He was keen to say what he heard - ''parroting from adults'' indeed - how else do you learn and grow up my dearest lurker316. wink

Not to forget his mother Mattie (and André's mother too?) worked at several schools.

He possibly must have gotten it from home.

-

And like Andrea Swanson said on Twitter :

https://twitter.com/SlingshotAnnie/status/1511761535722475521

''What you're seeing in that clip is a kid who already has his eyes open WIDE, because of the experiences he's had and the city he is in. It's so important to have this document of his early political activism! That thread was woven throughout his life.''

-

Concerning to agree or not agree any posts; its not about what is being said,

it's about the way you say it.

Always make it sound the way to you want to be addressed.

Peace though to all of us, it is so much needed (here).

There are good people, but I've noticed an increase of users belittling other users on the site. When there's a trend of negativity (and the negatives do stand out from the positives) without a sea of positives to counter it like on Twitter, the stink just STINKS more.
