The copie already sold two times, will be sold again on Discog by a Russian seller at two or three times the original price. . As usual, most copies sold won't be opened. . As usual, people like me who just wanted the album to listen to it, won't be able to buy it under 50 euros, and would be obliged to spend a considerable amount of time to just find a fucking copy. . Let's just hope the terrible artwork would dissuade people from buying it, and let more copies sold at a reasonable price.

Don't be so gloom. It's noted as a first release. Which means...RSD FIRST: These titles are found first at indie record stores but may be released to other retailers or webstores at some point in the future.

I'm curious : I only find that terrible remix version on the Prince official YouTube channel :
https://youtu.be/QJuTytASlUo
.
Where did you find the original song that was released in 1994?
The one that is featured in the music video, still absent on the Vevo channel, by the way.

Is this the original 1994 version, was added about 30 mins ago (I didn’t pay that much attention to the different versions at the time).

[Edited 2/17/22 9:37am]

Officially there's one in my town that already did RSD. But I know them, 15 years ago I was looking for a Sly Stone CD, they didn't know who Sly Stone was, and couldn't spell his name correctly.
.
The vinyls they sell are officially in mint condition, but these are empty boxes. The vinyls are stocked in the back office.
To me that's not what I can call " mint condition", that's "used".
.
I m 100% sure they won't get a Prince album for the RSD anyway, they don't have the networks to order it in the US, and they simply don't care about that kind of music. If I bet on them, I would lose for sure.
.

I would have to go to Paris, waste a day, 35€ of train tickets, in the mere hope I could find one : I don't have 15/20 years anymore, I have a job and two kids. So, I will sadly pass on it, just like I passed on The Truth.
It's sad, because if I want to buy, that's because I want to listen to it ( I don't have Crystal Ball), it's not to let it unopened as most fans do, or not for selling it again at a Russian collector on Discog.
.
RSD is only an US thing, all the copies sold outside the US have been bought in the US, and are sold again at an higher price.
The 13.000 copies printed for The Truth last year were officially sold only in the US, they all charted in the US top album sales.

Wow, that's great, thanks!
It seems Sony wants to profit a lot from Gold and TMBGITW this year.
So probably a regular vinyl later this year too.
Would be great if they HDed the other videos from the album too.
.
Nobody knows about the price?

Only have a CD-R copy from my High School days, with only 12 tracks, no segues ( or some merged into the tracks maybe) and with the original version of TMBGITW.
So all these segues amd remixes would be like new material to me biggrin.
.
I will take the CD for sure. If I get to see the 2LP in stores or in Amazon for a not over-charged price, I will buy it. I m in peace with that now that I can get the CD with the booklet.

The Vinyl for RSD will not be the original artwork its the Promotional artwork, cardboard cover with a sticker stating what it is. There will be a proper release with the regular cover at some point. And TMBGITW is back up on all streaming outlets so that mess must be solved too.

Prince was on fire during this period. All of his anger toward WB really brought forth some great music!

My version of TGE always includes Interactive, Ripopgodazippa, Acknowledge Me and Days Of Wild. Aside from maybe Interactive, the album is sorely lacking those songs!

And, unpopular opinion, the extra Rain Ivana segues are nice to have too.

I agree! The album is excellent the way it is,but there are so many great tunes that were left off the album.I was shocked when I saw the final tracklist and "Days Of Wild" wasn't on it.

It's insane that Prince included P Control and removed Days of wild. I think Funky Design and Hide The Bone should have been on TGE instead of We March and Now. Both are much stronger tracks imo.

Don't change the tracklist.

Make your own playlist.

Just don't sell it to others.

Such a lousy lazy cheap produced idea, i mean 'low'!

Why anyone is excited for this I totally don't understand.

An album we all have, and the I Hate U remixes we all have.

Instead they could've made a SDE out of it.

All that lost energy.

Plus a re-re-re-reissue of SOTT on colour vinyl, nothing else added to it, not even one new photo.

Plus again a re-re-re-re-re-reissue of Purple Rain on colour vinyl, nothing else new, not even better readable lyrics.

Milk the dead buried mummified cow, and again !

Why do they not release the Camile album for RSD ?

As long as they don't release the '1999 New Master' on vinyl next year for RSD, or the promo version!

I'm pretty sure soon we will have a promo version of Purple Rain, SOTT, 1999 etc.

Simply plain poor sad and disapointing imo.

I was already about to give up on the estate... or any new interesting releases in particular.

I have the money to buy everything out there.

I don't complain about prices like some here constantly do.

But what the fuck having ten fysical versions of one album?!

For fucks sake.

Well the major issue with all of these things is WHO can do what, there are so many different deals with Prince "after death" works, who can do what, when they can do it, and what they have any access too. First problem is "who" has what and access to what for how long. Sony has rights to certain things and they are limited to what they can do with those things thats why there is not a TGE special edition since that time period had tons of unreleased things and his issues with WB he had COME and tracks on that and a test press that was a mix of the albums why not release this as super deluxe. Well access to the stuff, Sony just has the proper albums thats all they cant start getting involved with that, and they are doing the manufacturing only and they are NOT going to get all into new packaging on albums that really are not going to sell to warrant them doing that. I recenly spoke to two label people that do reissues for out of print and hard to get stuff, usually its for 80's artists that had lots of mixes and their albums some are just not out there anymore or remastered, usually they deal with Rock bands and artists but some deal with artists like Sheena Easton, Laura Branigan, Berlin, Ultravox stuff like that. I asked HOW do you get access to these mixes and the albums because MOST were on major companies, and mainly its a time thing, how OLD is the stuff, after a certain time has passed they can easily get it if the label owns it. I was asking because we all know how many Prince Protege cds we want to be reissued and WHY does it seem like the request never gains any traction. And what I was told was, the lack of the original source tapes, if Prince and Paisley turned stuff over to Warner then it would actually be an easier thing, HOWEVER if because the label wrote off Paisley then who knows where the source stuff may be. Its not as easy as FANS want Vanity 6 reissued lets do it, the issue is who has these source tapes, what did this fall under, and also the original deal for these proteges did it have something written into a contract that future issues would not be done. Its very complex, mainly because PRINCE wanted so many different things and had so much stuff done

Pfew. Such a damn hard post to read. I had to split up every sentence you write. wink

Anyways, with all due respect, i think it's bullshit somehow.

Contracts are one thing. Since Prince is dead things can be different what the contractual obligations concernes - that is what I've been told.

I/we don't know how these contracts are organised, true.

So it's indeed very difficult to speculate.

Although... an example told to me by someone who knows;

Sony easily can create a new deal with WB or anyone else.

Thing is, someone in charge needs to see and feel if there is any need or profit to gain.

If, of course, that person (record company exec or anyone working for it) is capable of doing and willing.

People in charge of Record labels often have no(t enough) feeling with music or what exactly is wanted out there.

They have to make guesses, calculated risks, etc. The normal job one might think.

I know some people from the record business too. These are their words, not mine.

Another thing. Prince was way too prolific to have a constant flow of ptofitable releases.

Even when he was alive, and so called 'free at last', he knew that very well.

His sales numbers weren't all that much better after his slave period.

Sure he had a few dollars extra in his pockets.

And that says it all; money is the only thing that matters, obviously and understandably.

Thus, Money was a big matter for Prince, and it sure is for record companies.

But that has basically nothing to do with artwork for any re-issue.

I work in a graphic department of an architecture studio.

It is the least of the costs. Every picute is available. No new photoshoot is needed.

Lettering/typographics are a just few clicks these days.

Look for any vinyl or CD plant on the internet and you can see the prices of the artwork.

Miles Davis' work is released quite often with new artwork. Anyways.

I'm only concerned and angry for the milking of a dead mummified cow by art-impotent record companies.

And I understand the easy money machine of the new wave of vinyl and all.

Cassettes are these days the new thing - won't last long imho.

Youngsters wanting to buy some. Certainly those who were born after 2005 etc.

Its a temporary money cow that won't last, due to trending.

Trends always are quickly changed for the next one.

Concerning mixe and master tapes or recordings used for re-releases...

They can even do magic with found cassette tapes these days. Of course, like you say, IF they have 'm.

Prince's vault was mess, but i'm sure only 0,1% is maybe missing.

-

If you're interested in new vinyl releases...

A good example for a wonderful and fine limited re-releases of excisting records is the Dutch company 'Music On Vinyl' - for those who love vinyl.

First limited colour releases, and then the usual if there's a demand.

Their catalogue is huge and interested for collectors.

Prince's vault was mess, but i'm sure only 0,1% is maybe missing.

Honestly I dont think WB wants anyone doing Special Editions other than themselves, or at least that is what it seems like to me. Sony gets the later albums as IS since the albums are not being manufactured anymore, that is their job now and they control the allocating of it. WB is taking on the more lucrative and in-depth stuff and special editions, with SONY occasionally being tossed a dimaond in the rough to release their own way. And they all rarely compete in terms of timeline of releasing them.

Talking about SDEs, I never understood why Sony couldn't release b-sides material and video from the post-WB era.
Let's take an instance : Musicology.
.
The original album contained the video for the eponymous track.
The album generated bonus material /b-sides on physical and digital singles.

1. Magnificent
2. Musicology radio edit
3. Dear Mr. Man" (Live at Webster Hall) – 4:14
4."United States of Division" – 6:18
5."Dear Mr. Man" (Live at Webster Hall Video) – 4:14

6."Cinnamon Girl" (Video) – 4:04
7."Cinnamon Girl: Xposed" (Making of the Video) – 5:15

8.Call My Name (Single Version) (3:58)
9.Silver Tongue (Demo) (4:56)
10. Call My Name video
11. Musicology video

The album was originally released...at Sony's ! So why weren't they able to release that material along with the reissues?
Just to piss us off?

Is that "TMBGITW" dispute all smoothed over now?

I would guess so since the music video is now available on the official Prince YouTube channel looking much clearer than previous versions on YouTube.

What I don't understand is that new color vinyl releases are constantly announced,

and they can't even deliver this in time, although announced months ago in 2021 ;

DO ME, BABY (DEMO) - EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION 7" PURPLE VINYL

Also, the new vinyl releases are now 150gr (instead of 180gr.)
