Because the estate is judging all their million dollar business moves and all that entails (none of which anyone here can fully appreciate myself included) based on what a couple dozen spoiled Prince fans are bitching about on prince.org. Yeah. That's it.

.....nope.....rights from all the unreleased stuff where Prince was under WB contract belong to WB and not Sony !

D&P, the album that sold 7 millions copies worldwide, unreleased stuff? Or would you imply the SDE of D&P won't include the album itself?

from my understanding but i can be wrong .....WB/The Estate can release D&P SDE (official and unreleased content) because Warner has always under control the Vault material from this era & rights for distribution in some parts of the world ..if they decide to release it..they can do it !

Last time :
WB passed on their extra year (2021) gave by the estate to release D&P without sharing some rights with Sony. For some reasons : vinyl crisis, W2A released too late, lukewarm reception by the fans, etc.

Now, logically, if they release D&P in 2022, they have to share with Sony
If they release Parade, they DON'T have to share with Sony.
Do the maths. Why would they bother with D&P now?

Logically, because, as if by chance, D&P and Love symbol are not part of the Sony reissues😂

As i said before......Sony has rights only for distribution mainly for North America....for the rest of the world(distribution) & Vault Material Sony has no control at all...All the vault Material recorded by Prince under WB era is property of WB 4ever ....anyway for post 95 (Vault Material) ...from what i know ...nothing has been signed with Sony or other Majors for the years 95>2016 ...i do think this will be 1 punctual contract for each release as was for W2A....Sony finally is not in the position to dictate his law to WB for the main part .....see the content of the reissues to come = 0 ! We will see anyway if iam wrong in the months /years 2 come !

Disappointed that most of these have been apart of the rereleases the past few years.. I mean there is literally 3 copies of for you at my local books a million as of yesterday.. excited about Lovesexy and Come, but where is.. • Vanity 6 • The Family • D&P • the love symbol • black album • the gold experience • crystal ball • Exodus • New power Soul & it still baffles me that a large chunk of his officially released material is still not on streaming service’s half a decade after his passing.

What's exciting about Lovesexy and Come? 😂 They were already available in stores.

Yeah, they were available in stores 25 years ago... They have been out of print for a long time. I actually just looked for come on vinyl out of curiosity and you can buy it used for an absurd price, the average prie on discogs.com says 202 dollars.. meanwhile i can get for you at books a million for 20 bucks.. that's what i was referring to.

[Edited 12/15/21 0:08am]

Lovesexy amd Come are not reissued on vinyl, or have I skipped an episode?
Lovesexy was never out of print, I always saw it in stores since I m a Prince fam (2002).
I never saw Come though, as I said, it wasn't printed anymore, at least by WB.
[Edited 12/15/21 3:36am]

sorry, originally I thought these were being released on vinyl, now I see they’re not.. so that’s a bummer.

Yeah, it makes no sense that Come and also The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale aren't reissued/issued respectively on vinyl.

Yeah who knows why its that way, maybe a pressing issue, maybe this was what the deal stated they could do and not do. It is a shame that the Gold Experience is wrapped up in so much legality it might not see any kind of reissue

anyway....plan or not except if the box is already made stocked somewhere & ready to go.....they need several months to made a box (vinyls/cds etc..) so this is a long way to go before something in our hands !

[Edited 12/16/21 7:18am]

Just for the vinyls they need at least four months between the official announcement and the actual release. Let's just hope they scheduled something else before, but it seems unlikely. Sony just went to acquire some WB rights, that means D&P would be a Sony/WB release, amd as I suspected it for months, there are some unresolved issues between all the parts involved.

Sony rights are only for back catalogue (except PR/Parade/GB/Black Album and some others) but no aggreement for Vault material & remastering.....they need both...agreement from WB/The Estate for WB Era & The Estate agreement for the other periods .....at this stage ....their imput is very limited to press records without any bonus & remastering process.

If that is indeed the case then Sony music really got a raw deal. I’m sure they didn’t pay the estate that much money for the right to distribute past albums because Warner Brothers got all the classic material. So I’m assuming the estate didn’t get much money from Sony overall. WB must presumably didn’t want to pony up for material after 1996. Pretty slick and shrewd of them.

there had to be something in there for Sony to take on the lesser known catalog. One thing I am guessing is that they have the say when to put things out and why they did many so quick. Also they did get the W2A album, which so far has sold 200,000 worldwide, not ideal, but I have a feeling what WB has put out so far has not done that business. WB seems to be doing super deluxe things for the most part, they are letting Sony take on re pressing out of print stuff most of which wasn't WB anyway. Also Sony did get the One Nite Alone set and separate release too so they are far from getting useless stuff, I mean they aren't able to access his unreleased stuff even from then, to an extent, I believe W2A was the carrot they dangled for Sony.

That still doesn't explain why "they" Still can't print Livesexy on vinyl, for instance. Who the hell has the rights for this one?

This is confusion of da highest order! Who owns what, sony or WB? So sony get claims to all the old 80s stuff but not necessarily worldwide. If worldwide doesn't include America. This is indeed confusion of the highest order. You say carrot, I say banana. What is different, what is the same? Maybe best let Pasta (the Pastor) explain. These are reissues, not estate releases. I don't know how you all are looking for extras or whatever. This is no different than Emancipation etc coming out on purple vinyl. They're Legacy only. Released as part of his - wait for it - legacy, to have all his catalog on vinyl, freshly re-released, and readily available. No extras, no remasters per se, no bonus material. Just the album was it was, and as it will be again.

Curious, What's the purpose of reissues anyway? I assume most fans already has most of his albums. I'm only interesting in Prince's unreleased material

As I noted in another thread, we have to remember a lot of these are Sony LEGACY. Legacy - it's the handling of the back catalog. Many of these things have never been printed on vinyl, or it's been decades since a new vinyl pressing was ordered.

It's a way to have all his music available to everyone. There's a lot, obviously. So it's a systematic way to go through it and get it all out. Prince didn't much worry about what was printed in the past. But thankfully someone cares now. Eventually everything he's released will be on vinyl.

That said, I think the purple wax itself is just part of the catch. The real goal is to get his whole catalog active on the market. The court ordered the estate to monetize itself. And that - whether fans like it or not - is what they're doing. Prince has decades of music, and it should all be for sale. If we want generations after us to find Prince, the music has to actually be out there somewhere. It also keeps the flow of money in the estate's bank account for future projects (like SDEs or whatever).

The reissues aren't for us. There are others who have discovered Prince since he died, or even in the years before that, and they would have had trouble buying some albums. I'm never going to buy a vanilla reissue but am very happy that they are happening.

Yeah, reissues of the classic 80's albums are for new fans (even though a new fan could easily buy good second hand copies of those albums for far lower prices). Any old fan would have these already. But I can't be the only Prince fan who hasn't got all of the later stuff on their prefered media - which in my case is vinyl.

I have no interest in buying reissues of albums I already own just because they're on purple vinyl, but I'd love to buy an album like The Vault which has never been out on vinyl - or to fill some of the holes in my collection that are extremely expensive to fill with original vinyl copies.

I know vinyl is bigger in Europe that in the US, but even in America vinyl sales are growing rapidly. That's why I don't understand why The Vault or Come are only reissued on CD. It makes no sense if the estate wants to cater to the fans, but it also makes no sense from a commercial point of view.

These will receive a vinyl release at some point, but, having been out of print on vinyl for ages (or in some cases, never ever having been issued on vinyl), these will likely receive their own press release and separate marketing campaign via the usual outlets...
