There HAS to be tons of unearthed footage that Prince had laying around in that vault.

I mean, sure, the doc will probably focus on his 80's heyday since he, along with Bruce, Madonna, MJ and a few others are pretty much the poster children for 80's music. But, if they take their time, dig around a little and get the proper legal permissions, I think we can expect to see a fair amount of new things. Otherwise, why bother?

In most ways, to me at least, 90's and early 2000's Prince is way more interesting than Purple Rain or SoTT Prince simply due all the left of center shit he was pulling (name change, marriage, Amir, becoming a JW, indy labels, internet distributuon) and how he continued to succeed even though many people ( quite literally) considered him to be a punchline.

That Kevin Smith footage is in there somewhere unless Prince had it destroyed and the consensus among people who worked with him said he recorded hundreds of shows and music videos that just got locked up. Also, that he had cameras everywhere at PP (I think). At a minimum he had the whole place wired for recording songs.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this project and hope we get something semi close the recent Beatles film that Peter Jackson made, like the OP said, but I doubt it will be that comprehensive. I don't care much about seeing snippets of MTV videos like "Kiss" and "1999 " for the millionth time as someone narrates over it and I think maybe 4 or 4.5 chapters would do this project justice:

C1: Young years, upbringing, Rolling Stones show, covering thru For You and ending with Controversy
C2: His rise and peak during the 80's, MTV, Live Aid, Black Album, starting with 1999 and ending with Batman or GB. Cover his movies.
C3: the name change, Amir, Mayte, fight for artists's rights, going underground, etc. (this is what Im most interested in)
C4: Musicology, Religious conversion/Larry, his triumphant return surrounding the Super Bowl and R&RHoF induction
Epilogue: 3rd Eye Girl, his drug addiction, problems, death, legacy, philanthropy

There's just so much MORE to Prince than what he did in the 80's and I hope this thing pulls the curtain back, even a little bit
