Who are they?

But yes, the stuff is doing the rounds.

If that is meant by 'on the way'.

Quicker than the Estate.

Why didn't he ever perform DMB this way?

I even love the cover art for the 'Do Me, Baby' (Demo). Gotta love surprises from the Estate. Maybe they should drop a few gems from the Vault every month or so!

So you're just whining to whine then because you had a perfectly good option for what you wanted but ignored it just to have something to complain about.

No, I m not complaining at all. I just stated facts. If you want the blu-ray+ the booklet, you had to buy the Occidental SDE. I could have passed on the goodies though 😂

Two booklets, one in English and the other containing the Japanese translation of the lyrics, are included in the Japanese CD with the Blu-ray disk.

There was the same booklet in the japanese version than with the SDE?

I don't think so... Anyway the W2A DE contains
a sort of "book", the Japanese version a standard CD booklet.

Don't know or ever seen anyone in Prince fandom who claimed what you said, but this track ( and the in studio rehearsal from a year before this recording with Prince and Andre ( and BobbyZ?) jamming onthis and other tracks) was shared with some days (or weeks) before this release. ( Plus more)

The release is great, but they aren't maximising sales because they seem to have given up on CD collectors.

Are they trying to be authentic to the era maybe? No CD in 1981. Seems like a waste to me though.

Well, there wasn't a U.S. cassette single until 1982, so I guess simple nostalgia price gouging.

Thats sales, not volume. Vinyl is more profitable because of the high prices people are willing to pay.

It's volume now too. In the first six months of this year in the US vinyl sold 19.2 million units (up 108%) compared to 18.9 million CDs (up 2%). Vinyl's continued growth rate and the CD's continued decline made this inevitable.

https://themusicnetwork.c...ales-2021/

It's 5 to 1 in favour of CD's here in the UK this year (down from 8 to 1).

But of course is begs the question (even based on US sales), why would you not cater for 18.9 million CD sales? And surely CD sales will decline if releases are being made as vinyl only?

Answer: It's not about giving the fans what they want, but pushing them to the product with the highest mark up. Sadly, the collectors are lapping it up, which means we'll see more and more pointless 'limited' vinyl releases, rather than unreleased material.

It's a couple of years out of date, but this blog spells it out.

With the current shortage of raw materials, it's such a shame to use a vinyl to just release one song, with the other side blank.

I m not even talking about ecology...

Anyway, with the increasing of the vinyl price, I think by 2023 number of vinyl sales will decrease for the first time in more than 15 years.

This is a really cool surprise, think the Controversy album version is still my favourite (perhaps more due to familiarity) but fascinating to hear this early incarnation.

Slightly random question but remember a thread on here once saying that Do Me Baby appeared to be heavily inspired by an Eddie Hazel track (forget the name). Does this new version also display that same influence, or did that emerge later when it came time to rework the song for Controversy?

It's 'Frantic Moment' apparently, buy I can't hear it!

-

Oh yes, you can hear it very well.

Sort of the same chord changes, just sped-up a bit.

There isn't a shortage, the big oil companies just ahve to dicide to pump up more oil, simple as that.

It's the production and distribution of vinyl records that is becoming a problem, more due to the pandemic.

And from an ecelogical point of view, vinyl pressing for music is nothing compared with the production of plastics in general, so that is irrelevant.

Prices will rise that's for sure, but only due to high demand, and lack of foloow up in productions.

So, for one who likes to complain mostly about prices, in the form of 'facts'... there ya go...

If you're really interested, get what you can still get your hands on.

So this has nothing to do with the fact they can't release D&P this year?

That waste of precious material, just to overprice the products ( that year : 2 useless vinyl for the w2A SDE, the remaster of PR, using just a side for a 45 rpm) is exactly what is fucking their calendar releases year after year.

That's exactly the reason why Crystal Ball Ball has been pushed back last year, then cancelled this year, why W2A has been pushed back from april to July, why they can't release D&P this year.

And now this half of a single release is also pushing back D&P to an ulterior date. Just for one side.

Especially since it's the 2015 PP remaster. That thing needs to be taken OUT of circulation.

I haven't heard this yet. I absolutely adore vinyl, and buy everything on that format if I can... but a f'ing single-sided single?! WHAT? For how much? Get the fuck out my face with that bullshit.

Haha.... no sale. Sorry.

Just put the damn thing in a box set already and sell me that. Single-sided single, sunnuvabitch...

And also quit it with the dumb purple vinyl edition of the worst-sounding edition of Purple Rain ever. No one cares.

C'mon people, is it a holiday or what? Back to work, release some unreleased stuff! lol

That continued attitude by most Prince(r.i.p.) fans is why I was surprised that the cassette sold out.
