That's what happens when you don't know how to connect to other humans on even a basic level. Classic asshole Prince (providing it was his idea, anyway). Maybe Sheila was the ass? It sounds like a Prince move, though.

I knew a great singer here who was trying to land a steady gig.

He did background for many well-knowns from Anastacia to Michael Jackson.

There was always a replacement or someone slightly better.

It's such a cut-throat business.

Very hard to make it, indeed.

And, yes, he had to work at a fast food joint to make ends meet.

It clearly says that Sheila gave him the "pink slip".

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Prince(r.i.p.) or Sheila E. did the right thing.Sadiq is a TOTAL JERK! I refuse to even listen to the broadcast and will NEVER attend, buy or look at ANYTHING he's involved in EVER again.

He has written some great songs though, especially with Tony, Toni, Toné but also with D´Angelo and countless other acts.

Have you had a negative experience with him ? Ever worked with him?

What makes you say that he´s a jerk?

There's You Tube videos/interviews of Dawn Robinson (EnVogue/Lucy Pearl) explaining some of her past expereinces dealing with him. Very eyebrow raising, but not surprising. I've read he's difficult to work with...but I do respect his talent and I like some of his work.

^^^

It’s a birds of a feather case, both are shady individuals and Ali Shaheed Mohammed was the one who got caught in the middle. Raphael didn’t exactly do good for his previous group Tony Toni Tone either, just ask Dwayne, so he has a history of fucking people over for money.

Dawn left En Vogue after stringing them along and decided to give her replacement (forgot her name) hell even though she stayed with the group longer than Dawn. Maybe the universe was conspiring to bring two assholes together for the sake of teaching them a lesson in a “you met your match” kinda way? Idk. Talented for sure, though.

I’ll say this though, I felt spoiled in the year 2000. Lucy Pearl and D’Angelo’s “Voodoo” what a time to be alive smile I still hold these albums dearly.

His last album, Jimmy Lee (2019), was the best RnB album of the last few years IMO. It is all about the difficulites of trying to recover from substance abuse, I wonder if this was one of the issues that made him supposedly difficult to work with.

Raphael lost a LOT of people out of his life. Specifically he had a painful past marked by the tragic deaths of his four siblings that he was extremely close with that suffered from substance abuse, domestic violence, fatal car accident, & SUICIDE. That he didn't deal with the issues from it.That's what his 2019 album "Jimmy Lee"(named after his favorite brother) is about. It kind of made me understand why he is the nasty, rude, bitter, inconsiderate, person behind the scenes(whom is why I cut him loose). But acts like he's so sweet and nice in public.

I see.

Apparently Saadiq still had a working relationship with Prince, as he participated in his 2011 NPG Music & Art Festival in Copenhagen.

No, it clearly and quite literally says Sheila's ROAD MANAGER gave them the pink slips, but that doesn't mean it wasn't Prince's idea. I also said that maybe Sheila was the ass, which 100% implies that I don't know for sure and never said I did. It still sounds like something Prince might have done (meaning his idea, not execution). Just so we're being crystal clear.
