TTD went blonde for his 2nd or 3rd album (can't recall at the moment). I remember at the time thinking that's how Prince would've looked.

So the guy in the cloud suit on the cover of ATWIAD is the closest we'll see Prince as a blonde . . . it would have really shocked a lot of people!

The wig is very obvious in the motorcycle scenes reshot in LA.

Note also that Apples' hair is DRY.

Hardly. The studio threatened to take the film over (insurance) and have someone else complete it. They had to rush through the concert scenes and knowing how few takes were done, I think they did a more than decent job.
IIRC, Prince had to put up more money to keep the film in his and his managers' hands.

Prince's former art director Steve Parke recently published a book featuring the intimate, behind-the-scenes photographs he took of the star during his time at Paisley Park.

He also recounts the time Prince invited him to watch a montage of old performances he was preparing for the American Music Awards. When a scene from Purple Rain appeared, the star bellowed, "Look at that wig!" and burst out laughing.

Parke later asked Prince's hair stylist Earl Jones about the comment. He explained the star had had to reshoot a few scenes after the filming wrapped - but he had already cut his hair and bleached it blond - necessitating the bouffant hairpiece.

Jones added that Prince had reacted so badly to the bleach that his hair started breaking off, so he had to let it grow out, and dye it back to black.

"The hairstyle in Raspberry Beret was literally all I could do with it."

So then he had a wig during the tour?

No.
The Purple Rain tour ended April 7, 1985.
The ATWIAD album was released April 22, 1985 (no promo or video, initially.
The Raspberry Beret video was shot June 5, 1985.

Need to look for photos between those dates.
Did the inspiration for the bleached hair come from the album portrait?.

DVD to Blu Ray - enormous leap forward, nearly as much as VHS -DVD

BLu Ray to 4K - far less a leap.
