It's a typhani drum. I heard it on about the second listen. (First time was in a noisy car.)

True.

It also took me decades to discover this.

If you heard it, why would it need remastering? As opposed to a new subwoofer wink

It's the tymphani patch from the Yamaha DX7.

There's the answer. A sub will make all those old records sound much better in the car.

There ya go. #NotAHeartBeat

I never took to be mimicing a heartbeat. It's a very theatrical song, with the extended intro, the swelling arrangements, etc. The tymphani at the end just made sense in that regard. It's so hissy and hard to hear, it almost feels like a pregnant pause between songs. I thought, "Why is there all this space before 'Raspberry Beret?'"

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

I noticed it back in '85 as well. As a teen, I always listened to Prince on headphones with the volume turned up to 10. My philosophy was that Prince should make your ears bleed. Surprisingly, there doesn't appear to be any longterm ill effects because I do not suffer from hearing loss today (at least not yet, fingers crossed).

I had a crappy little record player at the time. you know,

the one where the speaker is used to close 'the box'.

A few years later (in 1987) i had my very first own (second hand, 70's) great B&O design stereo-system.

And THAT changed all i heard by then. smile

Another world of sound opened up for me.

The best thing ever.

Still have it to this day.

Yeah, I've got the HDTracks, too. It is quite lovely. Less compressed.

Same. I bought all the HD tracks. Well-worth it. I recall having to email them about "The Beautiful Ones" having a glitch. It took a while, but it was finally fixed.

Nothing, it was from my oldest cosin. He died, and his wife didn't wanted it anymore.

Although i have another soundsystem today in my house, I still use this one in my private studio /work space, to spin my likes whenever I like.

People walking in my office always walk straight toward it.

It is much wanted apparently.

Had to change the needle only once.smile
