a very early image inside Paisley Park 1987 the day THE LINE was recorded

The Line is an unreleased song recorded on 22 December 1987 (six days after Dance On, during a stretch of sessions focused on the Lovesexy album). It was written in response to a poem by Ingrid Chavez which Prince had recorded with her earlier in the month, entitled Cross The Line. The Line was included on an early version of the album, compiled on 21 January 1988, but was omitted from an acetate made on 27 January 1987.

Upstairs, the fuzzy bed that reminds us of Prince's fuzzy white books. He told his assistant-manager Ruth Azarte that he wanted a round bed and like all things Prince, he meant "now". So she found the only deliverable round bed within 50 miles.
She thought she'd get a pink slip; he loved the thing.
On the left, the "gossip seat" from the Black Sweat video.

About what year Ruth found this bed? smile

THe 90s redecoration done by Mayte(?) really gave the place some character, and made it so much more Princey.

Mayte didn't redecorate; Steve Parke did the design.

Interesting. I definitely read in an interview years ago that Mayte was in some way in charge of the redecorating (not to say she actually designed anything herself).

Unless Mayte did the work herself, she could have been allowed to approve or disapprove of an element. She was the guy's wife but it was his workplace, after all.

I feel confident that Mayte was allowed to do what she wanted for a few years there. At least for the most part.

I always thought it was cool that Prince had that purple pyramid light that was tunrned on whenever he was in the building. I get a kick out of picturing this one light switch behind a security apparatus that only he could flick on and off along with the idea that he could say "fuck it" and turn it off even he WAS home but didn't feel like dealing with shit.

What I understand is that Steve Parke was tasked to decorate Paisley and someone else redecorated the Galpin home -- and Mayte saw neither until after they were married.

The home was done in white and gold. Like their wedding theme.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I always found it a little odd that he put up so many images of himself in the building. I mean, on a certain level it makes sense but somehow it feels..."off". The symbol everywhere I get.

But for whatever reason, I would expect imagery that was more psychedelic and symbolic rather than iconographic or self serving like that. Fewer album cover shoots and promo images and more like the clouds in the main lobby.

I'd expect more...uh...abstract things like the crying eyes lady from When Doves Cry video or some of the stuff from the Emancipation booklet(s). Rivers, birds, flowers, space, lightning and clouds and shit. Then again, in later years, Prince was wearing pictures of himself on his own outfits so what do I know? Maybe he didn't mind having his picture taken as much as he said.

He said he wasn't much into awards or that kind of thing. And yet plastered on the walls of Paisley Park are many awards, accolades, suchlike.

He also had a mirror the size of the wall in his living room area right behind the TV. Which may make people think he had a vanity issue. But maybe he wanted to copy dance moves on the TV, dvd.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...
