"Crucial" ain't all that. I don't know why people fawn over it. It's tinny, ear-piercing, and not that interesting.

"Crucial" is amazing. The version on crystal ball is the one I prefer but the one on SOTT deluxe is pretty good too. Now if you wanna talk "ear piercing",then look no further than some of the ballads on the emancipation album (friend lover sister mother wife, saviour)

LOL, if I am interpreting the ear-piercing comment correctly, the mastering on Crystal Ball was very loud, bright and his falsetto was especially sharp on the ear.

That's how I like it

Stop with this silly talk. Adore is one of his top songs. Crucial is good, but nowhere near Adore.

This is that one case I'm stepping in and saying that they're equally amazing. Come on, that end part with the guitar on Crucial is godlike.

This might be blasphemy, but I rather have both songs on SOTT rather than boring Slow Love. Yes, they sound very much Like a sister/brother song. But hey, a song that good get a pass from me any day. Would have bumped up SOTT one step for me personally.

Stick with me here. I am not saying Adore is not a great song; The vocals alone are mind blowing. What I am implying is that the song is not the greatest song in world history that many think it is. There are many better Prince songs. Songs like Irrisisble Bitch are more clever. Ballads like Old Friends 4 Sale are more breathtaking artistically. Adore is wonderful but certainly not a top ten song. I even like Eye Hate U and Dolphin more. Adore is a standard ballad. It is not the avant purple masterpiece Rock Hard In A Funky Place is or as deeply personal as Condition of the Heart, a far better ballad. Little Red Corvette destroys Adore. Sure, Adore is better than Kiss. Adore is better than We March. Adore is better than Blue Light, but duh. Come On is even better than Adore! Blasphemy you say? I have ears people. You can kill me now lol

This place has truly become a joke.

"Adore" is not a bad song by any means but it doesn't blow me away like it seems to for most other fans.

Though I did come to enjoy this song a bit more in later years, when I started getting into Prince this was a song I just couldn't stand, and was surprised to know how much of a fan favorite it was. Mostly because it sounded cheesy, like the lyrics were full of romance, but that kind of calculated love talk that was done by a guy who just wanted to fuck a woman once then scram.

.

It took some years for me to listen to it again and find it to be a good song. That's all it is to me, and if all Prince's songs were like this, I wouldn't have become a fan. In that regard, I enjoy ballads like Do Me Baby and even Call My Name a lot more.
