Maybe when I was a kid, I had time to get lost in everything "Prince" but I don't have that kind of time anymore and I found it hard to digest.

I would much rather have a proper Camille album than a side of vinyl dedicated to those downright terrible Bonnie Raitt songs... good grief she was smart to get the F out of there

I also do not understand why they would give us a DVD of that concert and not a download .. I don't have a DVD player anymore and these new Macs don't have a CD/DVD drive.....

So, I got to watch it with everyone else and now I can't.. which seems dumb

The book was great and I am thrilled to have it...

But I am getting more out of the Duane Tudhal book than I am from the actual box set

I keep searching for the 1999 Superdeluxe but now it is more out of curiosity .. I can't bring myself to shell out the $ for it.

I would definiltey for Parade but no way for D&P

I don't know really, I bought the purple rain 1 for £40 I think and it had everything I needed on it. Then came the 1999 one which didn't, unless I was prepaired to pay over £100 I think, same with the Sott 1. As a kid I spent my Saturdays in record fairs etc, payed money for the collection I have in the attic. I have all the offical releases on CD, a lot on vinyl also. I regret buying the last lot of records he brought out, I listened to AOA a while ago and the TEG album. I was an obsessed fan throughout my life but there are only a few albums which I could play front to back. Guess I'd rather spend my money on new music and artists. There will never be anyone close to prince again but, life goes on ! Take care all.

He's only being honest and all his points match my opinion of these releases. They're just people's opinions, we're all entitled to them ! Be honest , and maybe it's because I spent so much time listening to his music. After Lovesexy , how many albums can you listen 2 front 2 back? And don't forget, jug head was on D&P !!!!!!!!! I've got TGE, maybe 3121, I could make 1 single album off emancipation, and that would probably be it ! Just my opinion !

Would be great to get the lyrics for the unreleased tracks that are included

I think he just bought the 3CD version, so he didn't know there was 45 unreleased tracks. But it's ok, I said we don't judge here biggrin

I am merely a Super Deluxe owner with two working ears so I don't need them written out to know what they are lol. I can transcribe the lyrics to the Vault disks though if anyone needs help with it, I don't judge here either smile

[Edited 7/2/21 13:44pm]

The pleasure of reading lyrics in an official support while listening music in a couch, is what makes me stick to the official physical support.
If you have to go on the internet to read the lyrics, I don't need to buy official support then.

There were numerous topics here, where even english native speaker couldn't understand some lines in some songs.
Not even mentioning that even english natuve didn't understand lyrics at all, like in Sexy MF. Reading them give you a better understanding of it all.

And, again, what is the point of physical format, with a book so heavy and expensive, if there s not even the lyrics printed?
What's more important? Dave Chappelle monologue?
Text bragging about how great the lyrics are, but oops, can't print them. There's not even a digital booklet with official possibility to have the lyrics. They just don't give a fuck.

We won't judge biggrin I know for sure from what I read here and on other Prince boards, there are numerous fans who didn't buy the Super deluxe Edition of SOTT. For obvious reasons : price, size, streaming, etc. I also know people and friends, who spent their life buying every single shit Prince released, but passed on the SDE's. I also know from recent discussion here, some orgers can't conceive there are people who can be fans but are not interested in a 150$ box set. This topic is your chance, an opportunity to tell the world your truth. Peace and be wild.

why in the world would i pay for something free on piratebay??

I didn’t buy it, I have two kids 1 and 6, and work part time. Sadly it was far too expensive with all the other things I have to budget for. And I have the album already, but no option to buy a stand alone dvd or just the vault material?

If we want to keep getting these SDEs,we need to support and buy the ones that are released.Otherwise, the estate will stop releasing these sets, thinking that it’s just not worth it.As fans,we have to show that there is a big demand for these things.

Partially agree on this one. I'd say "yes" for 1999 and the SOTT set because of the massive amount of extra vault tracks and live material. But the W2A is just a single album + live DVD of what is not exactly Prince's most defining era and the only thing that is "special edition" is a bunch of nick-nacks that are absolutely non-essential. I'm giving that one a pass.

I do agree that some of these essayes or testimonials are far from essential reading, especially when you have a great serie of books written by Duane Tudahl on the making of the music. I do love the pictures though, and the comments from the photographer.

Basically I bought two CD sets of each of these SDE (including the less quality Purple rain one). And 1 LP version of both 1999 and the SOTT because the music is worth it.

It's understandable that some may find it too massive to get through easily but nobody's forced to get through it all in 48 hours. I love how any disc might appeal to me at some moment and will get my extra attention depending on my mood. That's the fun of it; it provides a long lasting source of music to discover.

It depends on whether Autorip is included or not. $10 for CD and digital is a good deal. $10 for just the CD? Ehhhhhhhh

I don't understand this. It takes a couple minutes to rip a CD in whatever quality you like, from FLAC to 320kbps MP3, anything... Amazon's autorip files are lower quality MP3, not even 320kbps. Who wants that?

I usually download the autorip while waiting for the CD to arrive, then delete the files and make my own when I get the disc.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

I own an Amazon Echo and they disabled the ability to upload your own music to the cloud. Not that big of a deal since my music collection is already uploaded but most of the time I'm listening to music, I'm cooking. Being able to yell out what I want to hear is more convenient than dorking around with my phone.

Also most AutoRip are V0 MP3 which is good enough for me. Especially since the only disc drive I have now is on a very old laptop I keep around solely so I can rip discs. lol

I noticed that too."Rebirth of the flesh" from the official release sounds very thin compared to the bootleg "box of chocolates",but on some instances the estate gets it right."Wally" is a great example. You would think ALL the songs would be crystal clear quality coming from the estate but that's not the case. "Wouldn't you love to love me" from the originals release for instance.

Wally sounds bad with that warble. The bootleg copy doesn't have that warble and they could have cleaned that up instead and put it (also) on there.

Indeed. The warble on Wally is my only letdown on this amazing SOTT SDE but it's a big one. I wasn't expecting such an issue.... at least i wish they could have fixed it.
