Song Snippets

I heard 3 Chains O' Gold after a long while, and I had forgotten how beautiful that section of music is that starts with "You say you'll call me and then you don't..." I'd LOVE to hear that made into a whole song. The fading part of Dolphin and the part in Clouds that goes "It's in my power to love you..." comes to mind too.

So what are your favorite snippets or flourishes that you wish were longer or that a whole song was built around?

Yes, I like when Prince almost creates another song within a song, I always want them to expand into a different song, but I think we would actually be dissapointed - the little taster of a new concept is more tantalizing than the reality? It's similar to when you hear a new Prince song for the first time but only a snippet and you think it's the most amazing thing ever! Although Cosmic Day did reveal itself to be pretty good smile

The part in Clouds where he says "it's in my power to love u, it's in my power to love u up" - could/should of been a whole new song IMO!!!

I LOVE the weaving interplay of vocals between him, Wendy, and Susannah in
the middle verse of Anotherloverholeenthehead.

RODSERLING

What make this kind of songs appealing is that there are glimpses of different melodies intertwined, but a whole song of each part wouldn't work as much.
It s the different moods in one song that makes 3COG epic or Bohemian Rhapsody so epic.

Prince was notorious for starts and stops, shifts in melody, changing up the groove at times to get that extra "did he just do that?"

The ending of GB's Can't Stop comes to mind. Strange Relationship did too until we got that extended alt take where we see behind the fade out curtain.

Phase3

I'd like to hear the last 2 minutes of "in this bed I scream" made into a full song

Blondies1973

I used to love hearing that snippet of NPG part II when the choir is singing love to the left of me, love to the right... Until I discovered there is actually a song on the NPG maxi single...

-

The frivolish guitar starting the second part of the extended version of 'Thieves In The Temple'.

-

The last mysterious part of 'Temptation' (mixed into 'Girl' even).

-

Parts of the extended version of 'KISS', the changes in drums and keys, all these in several separate different songs; DEFFINATELY THIS !

-

The accoustic guitar end of 'Forever In My Life', like he did live.

-

The last part of 'I Can't Stop' (Grafitti Bridge Version) from 4:00 on.

-

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I love the last minute of Groovy Potentional. He asks "Do you wanna get down?" and suddenly the music becomes super funky. I like that bit more than the rest of the song.
