Because of all the "types" on here?

I dare not say who these "types" might be but all I know there is a definite need to understand mental illness a lot better based on some of the callous comments that just get bandied about on here. This community has been around since 1998 and so I think the Org would be a better place if it spent some time alerting it's community to better understand the issues that so many of us face instead of just allowing callous and deregotary comments to run rampant.

What's concerning me is no one from Princes camp is coming out to defend Prince in this. It's making me rethink my thoughts about Prince Because of the dubious things in some of his previous relationships. Mayta and Anna fantastic prime examples.

Social media is full of emotional abusers. Why should things be any different here? Like, realistically. The average person doesn't give a flying fuck about someone's mental illness. Unless it's a way to compare notes, and I don't mean that in a good way. The upshot being, you're more likely to get bullied, targeted whatever.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

Let’s stop making excuses for Sinead. She doesn’t get a pass. She’s going around slandering a man who is not here to defend himself. That’s wrong.Mental illness or not,she is saying that Prince is a violent abuser.Previously, she also lied about Arsenio Hall. The bottom line is……she’s trying to sell a book.I can’t take her claims seriously.

Prince was just as fucked up as any fucked up artist on the planet. After she probably refused to take a bath for him, he probably chased her down to get her to sign a non-dislosure form. When she refused, it probably made him more angry. I guess we will never get the full story. But we all know Prince used his fame and money to seduce underage victims just like MJ did. The only difference is that Prince did not get caught. I'm starting to think maybe the only people left on this website are Prince worshippers.

I'd agree with you if this were a new accusation but she has been telling this story since 1990. He had 25 years to respond. He chose to ignore it. I'm not saying that it is true, but it is by no means a revelation.

Yes, I remember. His quote was "That never happened. I don't know what she's talking about." I meant he chose to ignore the dozen or so times she told the story, after that. So, my guess is that if he were alive, he'd continue to ignore it.

I'm sorry, but I have to call this out. I'm an unmedicated bipolar sufferer and have never hurt a fly, literally - indeed, anyone who knows me well would probably tell you that I'm among the more rational (for the most part), gentle and empathetic of people. Anyone suffering from mental illness is a complex confluence of symptoms, environmental factors and personality traits that aren't direct manifestations of their "illness". Platitudes like this and others in this thread are simply idiocy. Respect to Milty2 for challenging it too.

Agreed. I've been around bipolar friends when they have been off their meds, I've never experienced even a hint of violence. They are much more likely to have violence directed at them.

Well that is interesting considering Sinead had this to say about Mike Tyson:

Sinead O'Connor Speaks - Rolling Stone

"Poor Mike Tyson. I mean, there is an example of a man who was treated abominably as a child; all his ancestors have been abused as children. He’s only a little tiny baby, and all of these people are trying to fuckin’ kill him. And they have killed him to a certain extent. They all have a great time saying what a monster he is. Lay off, because there but for the grace of God goes every single one of us. Poor man. He has had the most miserable upbringing.

If he looks for solace in the arms of lots of women, what do you expect him to do? And that woman that is suing him is a bitch. I don’t care if he raped her; he should learn about himself and why it is he behaves like that, et cetera, et cetera. But equally she should look at herself and look at the disgrace that she is making of women. Look at what she is doing to him by trying to get money off him, going around doing chat shows. She’s used him, you know. It’s disgraceful, and she’s a disgrace to women as far as I’m concerned."

Yes. Bipolar seems to be one of the hardest conditions to define and categorize accurately. Everyone is different, as is so often the summary ascribed to any particular disorder that people suffer. I didn't think bipolar fit my problems at all until reading about the mixed features aspect, which is closer to home for me.

And if it's so able to be controlled with medication, why does the treatment vary across patients? I remember interview on Irish television where Sinead O'Connor claimed to be taking at least 3 medications for her disorder. Then over time we get alternating views as to whether she has the disorder or not. Maybe discerning one's disorder from identifying symptoms is too imprecise. And instead, turning to sophisticated brain scanning technology is the way to go.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

Didn't get enough media attention with this story it seems:

.

Sinead O’Connor: ‘My ...yahoo.com)

"Sinead slams her children, 28-year-old Jake, 19-year-old Roisin, 11-year-old Shane, eight-year-old Yeshua, and their fathers - claiming that they have not been supportive of her.

"Writing to almost 598,000 Facebook followers, Sinead rants: “Jake, Roisin, Jr., frank, Donal, Eimear, I never wanna see you again. You stole my sons from me.

“Then you had hypocrisy to come to hospital and then not be here when I wake and not pick up phone? I’m sh*t to you. You’re dead to me. You killed your mother.

.

“So yeah.. Strangers like me.. But my family don’t value me at all. They wouldn’t know if I was dead until weeks from now if I wasn’t f*cking informing them now. well done guys, you’ve finally got rid of me."

I’m not getting into the mental health discussions but you only have to listen to her phone interview in the police investigation to realise she mustn’t have much credibility.
.
Some of her claims border on comedy. From calling Arsenio ‘the bitch,’ randomly putting Andre Agassi in the mix and P ‘beat the shit out of’ Wendy or Lisa. No way that would not have come out if true

I wouldn't go that far. smile No great offence taken, I just thought that it was too broad a statement to go unchallenged. I'm not saying that it's never the case, but in my experience and for others I've known it tends to be more of a self-destructive condition. Best wishes in any case. x

And there are different degrees, Bipolar 2 doesn't have full blown manic episodes. As for being nice on a social media platform -- that rule can apply to everyone, including Prince. If Sinead is going to publish books and do the media rounds, people are going to respond -- she isn't new to this game and there aren't special rules just for her.

interestingly,Sinead’s manager at that time was Steve Fargnoli.

Yes,the same Steve Fargnoli who was Prince’s manager but was fired by Prince in 1989 after the Lovesexy tour.He had many issues with Prince and later sued him.

hmmm
