3121 the song (not the album)

I recently started a thread about how much I love the song Lovesexy and was surprised to learn other fans also love it. I had a similar experience with 3121. That's my favorite song from his post-2000 career. I thought other fans might like it (I didn't expect it to be a hated song), but I didn't think other people would rate it as highly as I do.

However, it came in #1 on the Peach & Black Podcast's poll of the Top 20 songs of the 2000s. In fact, they said it wasn't even close -- it was #1 by a mile. I was happy, but surprised.

Out of context on the album, but a great jam on it's own, although too short for that monster groove.

An excellent song with quite a hypnotic groove...Although I prefer live versions of it more, where the bass is a little heavier.

Agreed on both counts. Doesn't totally fit with the rest of the album... and there should be a much longer version. I'm hoping there's one in the vault we eventually get to hear,

Actually I was blown away when I heard it. I was fully expecting a continuation of what he did with Musicology and whatnot which I thought was a decent album but not one I was super jazzed about. This track changed that.

The trio of Prince, Bland, and Thompson is gold. Period. I don't think Prince ever sounded more at home than with these two and it shines on a song like this which is loose, weird, stanky, futuristic but also old school, and just quintessential Prince. His best late career title track, imo.

I remember the moment I really dug into the song. I like his combination of his lower register and high pitched camille-esque voice.
Sometimes I'll put Wall of Berlin on right after just to see what could of been, a lot of the 2006-2008 material was interconnected!

"3131" & "Boom" and "From the Lotus" & "Back 2 the Lotus" all share similar sound effects and underlying vocal gasps and groans.

They should have been in a sequence!

Nice revisit of the Days of Wild groove. Shame we never got the original 'From the Lotus flower' configuration to hear it in context.

In some ways, "3121" remixes of "The Exodus Has Begun." Both are a bottom heavy jam, weird vocals and odd sections thrown in seemingly random, but wholly planned out. I also enjoy the fact that Sonny T. and Michael B. are on it.

The First Avenue 7-7-2007 performance of 3121 is my favorite.

I highly recommend seeking it out if your dig this track, its a monster groove live.

RODSERLING

I loved when it came in, but now I think the harmonies are terrible and the sound oversaturated.
It could have been great, like a SOTT track, but the Prince of the 2000's didn't care much about the dynamic of the sound.

It really sounds ugly to me now that my ears are more " Experienced".
