he follows it by saying "you want me to write my name on your walls...dont you baby" as she moans and makes sex noises... just like people write their name in the snow while peeing, he's talking symbolically about writing his name in her anal walls with his urine...very nasty, but very Prince...again, listen on vinyl if you can and slow it down...go back and forth on the word (like a hiphop DJ on the scratch) ...he's clearly saying swiddle...its a sexual slang term used predominantly by older black people and in black pornography back in the day...remember, he himself said he first learned about sex by reading his mother's porn novels

there's no way this was written in earnest

We all (save one) agree that he’s not saying “swiddle” (or whatever the word is RJOrion is suggesting).

“Yeah...U want me to swim in your love sea” “Yeah...U want me to swivel in your love seat” did we ever figure out the correct lyric? lol

I've always heard "U want me to swim in your love sea."

"swiddle" in yo' love seat

from the Urban Dictionary:

Swiddle
The act of urinating into the rectum during anal intercourse.
I was having a nice butt f**** with my wife and I thought I was almost there and I wound up swiddleing all inside her anus

That’s why reading is so important, it broadens one’s vocabulary yes

Will we ever get a 12" version?

That I would want to hear. Isn't there a glimpse of it being mixed in that Paisley Park doc video?

I am dying to hear the original version of the song too, before he quickly remade it for the album version.

There's something about the album version that doesn't do much for me. i like the lyrics, and the craziness at the end... but not the arrangement.

YES! there is a video glimpse of a Lovesexy Remix... Its one of my most anticipated unheard's. But, I do love the released version.

Well, it remains my favorite Prince album. Period.

And the title song is so unbelievably fucking great, with all the layers... unearthly unique!

-

I wonder if there is an extended version in the vault?!

To me this song screams for a three times longer version.

With all these layers and melodies on top of each other... it is worth a (re)MIX at least.

Love to have all these seperate tracks, please release them. wink

I can dream on, right ?

I’m pretty sure I’ve read an extended version definitely exists

There've been lots of threads and commentary on the Lovesexy album as a whole and the era in general, but I've not seen much discussion here on the Org about the title track itself. What do people think of it?

[Edited 4/8/21 13:55pm]

THIS is the REAL Prince Rogers Nelson. The Prince that would would create this song and album is the Prince I love the most. Who else has made an album this free minded?

Fantastic song, on a so-so album. Probably the best thing on the record, with Alphabet St (first 3 mins), and Anna Stesia the other strong cuts.

Lovesexy (the album) was a mild disappointment after SOTT, but had he incorporated some of the Black Album songs (not just When 2 R In Love) it could of been much better. Something like this...

Side A

1) Le Grind

2) Alphabet St

3) Cindy C

4) When 2 R In Love

Side B

1) Lovesexy

2) Supercalifunkisexy

3) I Wish U Heaven

4) Rock Hard In A Funky Place

5) Anna Stesia

has anyone heard the song Luv Sexy??

Basic tracking for Luv Sexy took place with the whole band on 14 December 1987 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (two days after Eye88.png No and Positivity, and the day before Sheila E. recorded lead vocal overdubs on Latino Barbie Doll). This original song, described by Eric Leeds as "lighter, bouncier", was very different from Lovesexy, although it did have the same horn/synth hook-line as well as the 'rain is wet sugar is sweet' lyrics and dialogue, also at the end of Lovesexy. The song had a faster pace. Luv Sexy was included on an (untitled) acetate of most songs that ended up on Lovesexy. Three days after this acetate was made Prince would record Lovesexy, as a replacement for Luv Sexy.

.

Ever since this theory was put forth, I have told several people about it. Prince fans, I should specify, not just random people. And Prince fans of legal age who I have a close relationship with, I should also specify.

.

Because it is a very funny explanation and the word he speaks IS two syllables and does sound more like "swiddle" than "swivel."

.

That said, how long has this "swiddle" term been around? Prior to the like of Urban Dictionary and other online sources, some of the more outrageous sexual slang simply wasn't well known (and some of the terms likely didn't exist, I would think).

.

I want it to be true (ONLY because it's just.... out there), but I can't fully believe this is what he had in mind.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I aboslutely love it -- it's got so much energy and personality -- but I've always assumed I'd be in the minority. I figured most people would consisder it cheesy. So I was surprised when I was listening to the Peach & Black Podcast review of the album and heard all four of them rave about what an amazing song it is.

In fact, @Toejam (who's opinion I value) went so far as to say Lovesexy might be his absolute favorite Prince song of all time. (If I recall correctly, he said he came down to Lovesexy, Strange But True, and maybe one other song.) That's pretty high praise.

[Edited 4/8/21 13:55pm]

.

The song - buried within the long, unbroken, single album track - is my choice for MOST underrated and generally most underappreciated Prince song. Isn't it in two keys simultaneously? I thought I remembered reading that the horns were in a different key than the rest of the song. Yet it all blends together seamlessly and naturally.

.

The song (like the album) is a work of pure, unfiltered musical genius.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

the term "swiddle/swiddling" was around way before the internet or online Urban dictionary was even a thing... as a youth/teen in the 70s i was quite the "black porn" novel and porn flick connoisseur. and it was definitely used back then...and for those who think its about eating coochie, i have never in life heard of a vagina being referred to as a "love seat"...that makes zero sense...like i said...theres a reason he distorted that line as he did...he didnt use distortion tactics while singing about eating pussy...he was quite clear about that... but like i said, im not gonna argue with the 2 or 3 of the usual antagonists about it...i responded to YOU because you appear to have inquired earnestly

Thank you, I'll go with that then. I honestly hadn't heard the term until seeing you mention it here a while back. Definitely very arcane and non-mainstream.
